chalk up another viewing of "Star Wars"
#77
It doesn't shock me at all that while the Star Wars flicks have been mentioned over and over again, we've only seen one mention for any of the LotR flicks.

Just look at the average vintage of the movies mentioned in the replies. Repeat viewing tends to be done while young. The results will no doubt be different 30 years from now. Of course if the current generation is honest future polls will be mostly occupied by kids' films. Seeing The Crow 47 times over a lifetime is nothing ... I know kids who have seen the same Disney movie 47 time in one year thanks to the combination of home video and the monomania of the very young.
Being extra-geezerly myself, I would have to say my own most-viewed movies are the Wizard of Oz, It's a Wonderful Life, and Casablanca.

i think it has most to do with runtime. "Star Wars" is much more conducive to repeat viewings because it is 2:03. The LOTR movies while amazing clock in anywhere from 3:30 to 4:20-ish (depending on te vs. ee).Originally Posted by Inverse

Due to my child and teen years, likely a tie with Back to the Future, The Lion King, and Jurassic Park. In the last five years I'd probably say it's Fellowship of the Ring, Shrek 2, and Back to the Future Part III, oddly enough. The latter two mainly because I always stop whenever they're on tv, which is often lately. Fellowship got a lot of milage due to marathons before the theatrical and then subsequent dvd releases of the other two films, however that's not a bad thing at all.
Honestly, I don't know why Whisper of the Heart or Brazil aren't on that list.. I'll have to rectify this.

Heh, must be Michael Jackson's Moonwalker. I don't think I've seen it in 10 years but as a kid I'd watch it almost every weekend.
In my older life, probably The Matrix or Gladiator

I've seen Grease probably around 50 times. One summer month long ago, I watched every showing on HBO. I've seen it several times in the theater and on VHS. Oddly, I don't own a copy of the movie anymore. Still love it, though.

The Hunt for Red October - Not everything reacts well with bullets
