Uh oh! Other people have seen this before. You're in for it now. Head for the hills!

Artman 05-18-06 03:47 PM

That'll probably be the quality of the new DVD set... :grumble:

The Bus 05-18-06 04:29 PM

What's the story behind this?

OldBoy 05-18-06 04:37 PM

scene from the upcoming "Star Wars: Episode III.I- Brokeback Tatooine"

chess 05-18-06 04:37 PM

I always thought it was strange that they added the reunion for the two characters in the SEs, but no introduction to Biggs before that. Guess now I see why they didn't leave it in. Yeesh.

Plust, I think he grabbed Luke's ass at the end. Pervert.

Gunshy 05-18-06 04:51 PM

Never seen it, pretty cool stuff, ty OP.

Yeah, know, I know.....It was released on the "Behind the Magic" CD-ROM from 1997.

But I found it uploaded to youtube, and I figured, why not share this tidbit with others who haven't seen it?

Anubis2005X 05-18-06 05:09 PM

I've never seen that, awesome!

I had known about the CD-Rom and of the scene itself - but thanks Jeffkjoe, now I can finally say that I've now seen it.

killershark 05-18-06 05:12 PM

Haven't seen it, thought it was cool.
thanks.

shizawn 05-18-06 06:08 PM

Neat, I hadn't seen it either.

cactusoly 05-18-06 06:16 PM

they are on on a Star wars Cd rom from a few years ago, there was also an alternate scene in Mos Eisley with Han Solo with some woman at his side when he met Luke and Ben. I wish they were put on the SW DVDs

Yeah, having your face wrapped around your car tends to have that effect...

I remember the details of that scene from the comic book adaptation by Marvel, so that makes me a bigger fan than you! -ptth-

I recall hearing rumors that this was supposed to be restored for the 2004 edition of the movie. I wonder why Lucas couldn't be bothered with it. The reunion scene has always been out of place at the end because this was missing.

kcbrett5 05-19-06 07:35 AM

Whats with the droid in the beginning?

Johnny-5 Alive!!

JustinCleveland 05-19-06 09:03 AM

The Biggs/Luke interaction was a great part of the novel, and I wondered why they cut it. This scene is well-acted and rounds out a lot of what the Empire really is, and why the rebellion is acting. I think this, and the reunion scene, should both be included in the film. Plus it helps cement Luke as a dreamer.

dick_grayson 05-19-06 09:05 AM

that was kind of surreal. now I understand better why all the actors thought Star Wars would flop......they must have seen that clip. looks like something out of Zardoz

I guess that the droid that breaks down at the beginning of the clip explains why Luke has to buy C3PO and R2-D2.

story 05-19-06 12:36 PM

I hadn't seen that, yet. Thank you.

I like it by itself, as it fleshes out their relationship, but I wouldn't want to see it back in the the movie. It would totally disrupt the flow of the opening. You know, the whole "droids to Luke, Luke to Ben, Ben to Han" thing they've got going on.

[puts on huge Star Wars dork hat]It's a treadwell droid. Geez.[takes huge Star Wars dork hat off]

RavenTwo 05-19-06 02:15 PM

These scenes start off the Radio drama presentation of Star Wars. The radio version expands the relationship of Biggs and Luke a little bit more in other parts as well with respect to the movie.

Jimmy 345 05-19-06 07:15 PM

Very interesting why on Earth is it not on the DVD.

The Infidel 05-20-06 12:11 AM

The first part of that clip looks like it was filmed in the 1920's! I halfway expected to hear a piano playing Luke's theme ragtime-style.

My favorite deleted scene is the one with C3P0 and Luke in the landspeeder. That was bad.

The Antipodean 05-21-06 12:47 AM

Wow, kind of cool to see that at last. And to realize that bad acting has always been a part of the Star Wars universe. Yeesh!

I hear it was cut because it ran against the storytelling structure used for the opening of the film, namely that the story simply follows the droids until they meet Luke for the first time. With this scene in, the movie would've instead cut away from the battle to introduce Luke - and then cut back to the droids escaping. Although it would've worked okay with the scene in, the movie works better without it.

Was it the introduction to Luke? I thought it would have been after they got the droids, where Owen told Luke he could go and spend time with his friends after he got his chores done, which was where he cleaned the droids up and saw the message. Then he came back later in the evening and R2 had gone off. It's been a while since I read the comic book, but that's how I always pieced the deleted scene in.

I think the battle he sees above him is Vader's Star Destroyer overtaking Leia's ship. By the time his friends look thru the binocs, they are already docking, so the fighting has stopped.

And who knew old Uncle Owen was handy with a blaster?

My first time seeing it to. Thanks OP!

The Reaper 05-21-06 06:45 AM

Never seen it before.........thanks a lot!!

Yes, it would've been the introduction to Luke, due to him seeing the opening battle above, but I think it could've also been edited in the way you describe. It would've been a little out of chronological sequence, but I think it still would've worked fine.
