Box Office Numbers Question
Hey guys,
When they list the "Weekend Box office" numbers, does that only figure Friday and Saturday? What about Sunday? The reason I ask is they often release the full weekend figures early Sunday, which makes no sense if they're figuring in Sunday numbers....most theaters haven't even started their screenings that day...
or do they figure in an "estimate" of how Sunday will do? If so, why not just wait to release numbers on Monday? (I know they release "final" figures on Monday but usually they aren't far off, meaning they must have really accurate Sunday projections if that's what they're doing)

They will track projections day of, day before. Then they track estimates day of, day after. Then they give actuals a day or couple of days after. Usually by Wednesday, you'll have the actuals on all movies for the weekend.
For openings, they usually look at Fri, Sat, and Sun, unless there's a holiday or the movie opened earlier in the week.
