Terminator 2 Rated R

Is it me, or have the ratings really skewed the last few years. Can you imagine T2 being released today, exactly the same movie it was when it first came out and not getting a PG-13 rating?

No. I still think T2 would be R. Things have changed---but not that much. Sarah Connor? Atomic bomb? Flesh blown off her bones??

The Sci-Fi channel still edits out the T-1000's sword kills. This is still a pretty hard "R".

The original Matrix on the other hand..

T2 is a moderate R, even by today's standards. As pointed out, The Matrix was much closer to a PG-13.

T3 got an R rating in 2003, and it really was no more violent than T2.

Isn't the rating system stricter now? I mean if it was released now they'd get an nc-17 and they'd have to recut it to get an R. Like X2, where the truth lies, and bunch of other movies.

I would still give T2 an R rating as well.

lukewarmwater: X2 was cut from NC-17? Show me a source!

Also, ratings have only gotten stricter when it comes to some sexual content; violence, on the other hand, is getting more extreme within the same ratings.

Go watch the remake of "The Hills Have Eyes" and tell us if you think that would have ever been allowed as an R-rating anytime in the late 80's or anytime in the 90's. Hell no. For violence, the MPAA has really looked the other way for the past few years.

Even if you think the violence was PG-13 level, it still had quite a few f-bombs that would be enough to get it an R.

I think there will be a day when a movie like T2 will be PG-13. Just look at how Young Guns was R and Young Guns II was PG-13 for the exact same content. Times are changing.

They had to cut out the Rogue, Storm, Jean Gray 30 minute lesbian threesome scene.

Would this get an R today?

Hmm...
Xander Berkeley's death scene alone would merit it.

The sword finger through the eye would have got it an R, no doubt.

I mean, the language ALONE would be enough for T2 to get a R rating. And the violence would get T2 a R rating.

No way in any time was T2 going to get a pg-13.

Yeah, I watched T2 recently and was suprised by how many F-bombs were dropped. Movies that shouldn't be R that are I would suggest The Matrix, Sleepy Hollow, and Road to Perdition.

T3 is a funny one, I thought the British 12A/12 rating was ludicrous - OK most of the killings happen off screen and the violence is mostly robot on robot, but I wasnt expecting that many F words in a 12 rated film.
I think the UK 15 for Matrix was about right.
