As much as I've enjoyed Christopher Marquette's previous work, I just don't know if he can hold a movie.

I've never heard of any of the actors, or the director.

They could not have done a better job casting the main nerd. I will give this a chance.

Do modern-day college girls even still have bush? I thought it was all landing strips and clean shaven these days.

Andrew McFarlane ("My Wife and Kids") has booked a role in Fox Atomic's "Revenge of the Nerds." He'll play George, a former geek who's become cool and handsome. Pic stars Chris Marquette and Katie Cassidy.

McFarlane's credits include "The West Wing," "ER" and "The Bernie Mac Show."

WTF? There's no Urkel that turns into Stephan in Revenge of the Nerds. Where the hell is Lamar?

Looking forward to this movie?

Well too bad! Fox Atomic officially pulled the plug on the film yesterday, after 2 weeks of filming had occurred. More from Variety:

------------------------
The nerds won't be getting their revenge, after all.
Fox Atomic has officially ceased production on its remake of "Revenge of the Nerds," which the division had hoped to release next summer.

Project was put on hold earlier this month after two weeks of filming when Emory U. in Atlanta, where the pic was skedded to shoot, decided not to participate in the film.

People close to the film say another issue was that Fox Atomic topper Peter Rice was not completely satisfied with the dailies and that the film felt smaller than the kind of pic he's aiming to release from Atomic, the teen-oriented label launched last year.

Rice addressed the issue by saying, "Everybody worked very hard on 'Revenge of the Nerds,' and we're all extremely disappointed that we can't move forward."

A Fox Atomic rep said that all participants in the film have been compensated for their work.

Pic, which was being directed by tyro Kyle Newman, was a remake of the 1984 comedy. Cast included Katie Cassidy, Jenna Dewan and Dan Byrd.

Well that is interesting. It seems like there would be more to the story than just Emory pulling out. It can't be that hard to find a school to participate.

I guess Peter Rice realized that this movie was going to be terrible and straight to DVD.

Apparently a few cast members dropped out when production had to leave Emory University (Katie Cassidy left because she has to start Dallas in January) , and that would require re-filming of certain scenes, and then with the production halt...if the dailies looked bad at only 2 weeks in, he probably realized this was the time to cut his losses.

I suppose watching the original movie and giving thanks that a PG-13 remake isn't going to come out is in order.

And this does save us from the eventual "Revenge of the Nerds: Unrated Edition".

But it didn't really sound like it was very faithful to the original movie anyway.

Re: Revenge of the Nerds being remade

Seth MacFarlane is reviving the age old rivalry between jocks and nerds. The comedic actor is developing a reboot of the seminal ’80s comedy “Revenge of the Nerds” at 20th Century Studios.

Keith and Kenny Lucas, identical twin brothers best known for their scene-stealing roles in “22 Jump Street,” are set to write and star in the film. They are co-writing the script with Alex Rubens (“The Twilight Zone,” “Key and Peele,” “Rick and Morty”). MacFarlane will produce the reboot for his company Fuzzy Door Productions, along with Erica Huggins.

The upcoming version won’t be a remake of the 1984 comedy, which hasn’t aged all that well and has been criticized in recent years for depictions of rape. Instead, the contemporary reimagining will pontificate about today’s nerd culture and what even constitutes a geek in the 21st century.

Yup, my first thought was that there's no way they could faithfully remake this today (there's the rape, misogny, and the fact that "nerdiness" has become a lot more accepted). But going for a more nerd culture thing makes sense.

I believe it was Booger that said and I quote "get out of my way I want to see that bush"!

Such a classic.

Nice to see they want to ruin this as well. Agree the "rape" was very uncomfortable to watch when I revisited this a few years back. I had not remembered it and was like WTF?

Rape was funnier in the 80s.

^ That’s awesome.

I remember all those scenes they mention except the Police Academy one. I guess it’s been too long since I’ve seen it.

Spoiler:
The bad guys in the movie try to get Mahoney (Steve Guttenberg's character) in trouble by sending a prostitute to his dorm room.

Mahoney tries to get the prostitute out, leads her to an auditorium, where, unbeknownst to him, the commandant of the academy is going to give a speech. Mahoney and the hooker both hide under the podium.

Commandant Lassard walks up to the podium and starts to give his speech. The prostitute then unzips his pants and fellates him while he gives the speech until he climaxes.

After he gives the speech, the commandant looks back and sees Mahoney coming out of the podium, and thinks it was him that gave the blowjob.
