Jet Li should have never came to Hollywood.

I can't help but wish that these Kung Fu stars didn't exist. Last thing we need is for Hong Kong actors to enforce the stereotypes of the wacky looking kung fu.

Wow, you wish they didn't exist? That seems really harsh. The Chinese are the ones who started the "wacky looking kung fu" movies, so it's not like they are conforming to some Western stereotype of themselves.

One thing that annoys me is when there is an Asian character and he just has to use some goofy looking Kung Fu.

I would honestly rather see Jet Li in some drama playing a non Kung Fu character.

This is what is great about Korean movies. They aren't over the top kung fu/john woo bullets flying everywhere flicks.

Up until a couple years ago, the other ppl in my class would make lame asian jokes to me, and automatically think I'm chinese, making lame ass kung fu jokes.

Nowadays I still come across ppl who associate my name with Bruce Lee(usually black ppl do this to me, don't know why. they make some bruce lee joke to me and its annoying as fuck. They play up the race card so much its hypocritical)

You should be using your Asian-ness and the fact that people think you are a martial artist to your advantage.

Having Jet Li do a movie without Kung Fu would be like having Jenna Jameson in a movie without sex.

It also sounds like you are using your personal problems as a reason to hate martial arts films. There are plenty of good martial arts flicks and they don't have "goofy looking kung fu".

Probably the same cut ... the runtime listed is only a minute or two less than a few other international releases.

Went and watched it tonight...I enjoyed it. Seemed to stretch Jet Li's acting chops a little bit more. Little sappy, but still pretty fun.

great action scenes, but the middle really kind of came to a screeching halt... good but not great if you ask me.

I saw it tonight at the Cinerama Dome, and aside from an apparent bad DTS disc, I really liked the movie. I was actually impressed that in the middle, they didn't feel the need to force another fight into the movie. That is one thing that bothers me a lot in films of this type; that they feel like they need to rush through the character development and exposition in order to get to the next ass kicking. To me, the middle was important to the rest of the film, however slow it may have made the film seem.

Also, I'm curious to know what was cut out of this version, and to see the complete version at some point. There seemed to be a couple of abrupt scene transitions but it could have been that way in the original film. It's hard to say for sure.

i saw this in theatres today. i really enjoyed the action scenes of course, but did find the middle to be important to the character development like finkpish said. can't wait to pick it up on dvd.

I thought it was okay, not as gripping as I had hoped. Other problems were a soggy 2nd act, and the lead character didn't feel as fully realized as I had hoped before the film moved into the mid-section. The fights were good, but not as engrossing because of the use of jump snips (where they would take out a few frames here and there during the action sequences to force a cinematic style to the fights at times). It's still worth a matinee viewing if you are a fan of Jet Li, or the genre.

I give it 2.75 stars, or a grade of B-.

I actually wasn't expecting a lot since I read a few negative reviews, but this movie was excellent. I pretty much loved almost everything about it. Ronny Yu knows how to direct this kind of flick and does it with great style. Li was fine and the martial arts sequences were spectacular. I didn't find the 2nd act tiresome or dull and really was drawn into the story because of it. The only thing I didn't like was the very last scene, which was a bit corny...

On an unrelated note, leaving the theatre, I couldn't help but think that if Jet Li, Tony Jaa and Ronny Yu got together and did a "Mortal Kombat" movie, it would fucking rule (Yu could use his horror chops to bring some serious MK gore to the fights, Li would make a kick ass villain and Jaa IS Liu Kang....) Think about it.

Unless I zoned out during that scene i'm pretty sure that arm breaking scene with Master Chin got cut out, and yeah it was subtitled

this was released in digital sound?! The print that AMC Georgetown got was pathetic and not digital since all the reel changes were accompanied with an audible click. I thought the sound design was terribly lacking.

When I was growing up in the 70's a lot of my black friends considered Bruce Lee soul brother #1. It just means he crossed all racial boundaries and blacks had a great respect for him. I think they might be playing off that because maybe younger people have heard that from their parents. That may be the case w/ them messing with you. I'm sure it's not a negative thing.
