New Line to make a Horror version of "Peter Pan"
Yes, thats right. lol.
Peter Pan is set to become a horror movie by the studio. They must not have seen the Mary Martin Version. With Alice in Wonderland, Pinocchio, and now Peter Pan all coming as Horror takes in the next few years? I guess Hollywood is veering off into the "twisted" fairytale sector of the genre. Though we already had it back on Showtime in the 80's. http://www.reallyscary.com/2006/03/n...e-on-peter.asp |
Well, people tend to forget that before Disney got to them, many of these "Fairy Tales" were Dark and were meant to strike some sort of fear.

While I feel that there has been too damn many incarnations of Peter Pan, this one I would actually see.

Mmm.. Tinkerbell.
|
While not limited to just the Grimm's fairy tales, I agree that Peter Pan does not fall under that category. In my opinion, this sounds incredibly lame. Almost like a bad spoof.
|
Giantrobo is right in that the original books/fairy tales were often darker than the Disney versions (though I havent read Pinocchio), this "horror" Pan seems utter nonsense. Nothing to do with the book.
The "donkey transformation" scene in Pinocchio was really scary! ;) |
Sounds kinda lame.
The movie that was released a few years ago was good. But really the only part of the movie that could be played up as "scary" would probably be Hook and the Crocodile/Gator. As for "Alice"...i liked the video game more than the Disney movie. I think the game (even though I think its a sequel) had the tone right while Disney's version cleaned everything up. |
This could be really interesting. I've never read Carroll's "Wonderland" books, but I'm interested in them.
Thanks for the info. |
If done right I think this could have potential. Odds are it won't be done dark enough and will be lame.
|
I hope the Croc eats some of the Lost Boys... ;)
|
Man, I forgot about McGee's Alice, that was a GREAT game! I'm gonna have to dig up my copy and play it again.
|
I don't know that it would make a great horror movie, as it sounds cheesy. But I would love to see a very dark version by Tim Burton. That could be great.

Burton could probably pull this off. |
There already is a horror version of Peter Pan.
Michael Jackson. |

This isn't the worst thing I've heard -- far better than another PG-13 remake/sequel teen-oriented lamefest. I really liked the horror "Snow White" done a few years back -- though that story was practically horror to start with (witches, evil mirrors, murderous huntsmen, creepy dwarves).

I can imagine a really creepy Captain Hook hunting down children. That could work. But I'm not sure how the Peter Pan character would fit into that. On the other side, they could use the basic premise of the Peter Pan character but make him evil. Either way it's going to have to be a big departure from the original story.
|
"And when they got home...there was a hook in the car door!!!!"
|
My neighbor the other night noticed my Twisted Land of Oz figures, made by McFarlane, the other night. She and I started to talk about what Wizard of Oz would be like as a horror story.
While I'm not sure if I would start with Peter Pan the idea isn't too bad as a whole. |
Seems unnecessary since the last version was horrible enough.
|
What version was that, Return To Oz or The Wiz?
At least RTO was based on one of Baum's books. |
