Brick -- D: Rian Johnson -- S: Joseph Gordon-Levitt

I saw a preview for this movie on The Constant Gardner dvd. Is it coming to theaters or straight to dvd? It looks interesting enough to see but I would like to know a bit more.

Comes out the 24th of March, though it's played the festivals for over a year. Ain't It Cool ran some stuff about it.

NatrlBornThrllr 01-26-06 02:07 AM

Yeah, I had a chance to see it a while back at a festival but sat it out. I intend to see it sometime during it's run, if all goes as planned.

I'm looking forward to seeing this.

dsa_shea 01-26-06 07:35 AM

Thanks for the feedback and the date. So will it be released to theaters or on dvd?

Giles 01-26-06 09:26 AM

I saw this at last years Mill Valley Film Festival and I was quite frankly dissappointed - it started out okay, but as the story progressed it got more and more ludicrous.

Theaters.

Rian Johnson's new film "Brick"

Has anybody else had a chance to see this?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0393109/

Focus has picked it up, but I'm not sure when it's coming out. I saw a screening of it in LA a week or so ago and Rian did a very interesting Q&A afterwards.

I hadn't heard anything about this movie before I saw it. For about the initial 15 minutes or so, I absolutely hated this movie, disliking the film noir plot and dialogue superimposed upon a high school setting. At about 20 minutes in, I realized that I was really starting to enjoy it and ended up moving past my initial reservations and really loving it.

After I left the theatre, I was already looking forward to catching it again!

FinkPish 03-18-06 09:11 PM

Should I know who Rian Johnson is?

conscience 03-18-06 09:44 PM

I doubt it will get to my area, but it might be a rental for me on dvd. The trailer looks pretty fucking weird - which is a plus in my book.

I agree, the trailer looks interesting enough that I want to check this one out

NatrlBornThrllr 03-19-06 03:23 AM

Eh, I had a chance to see this back in October at the Austin Film Festival but chose to sit it out. I'm still kicking myself for that, but it showed at Sundance more than a year ago so I anticipated a release sometime before the end of the mankind. Silly assumption I guess.

I'm looking forward to seeing this.

I liked the trailer, and I'm looking forward to seeing the movie.

djfilms 03-19-06 01:41 PM

I saw it at sundance last year. one of the best ones I saw.

Peep 03-19-06 02:43 PM

Since Sundance, Rian said he trimmed about 6 or 7 minutes. I believe what I saw was the final cut. This is his first film. I believe he was one of the co-editors on "May".

Same here. Can't wait to check this one out.

It can't be any good. Ryan doesn't even know how to spell his name.

Abob Teff 03-19-06 11:52 PM

I have been dying to see this since the first time I saw the trailer on another Focus film! Any word on when this will finally get out (probably have to wait for the DVD, the ONE theater company we have here is shite)?

Also, any idea why the trailer has been altered? Initial versions have the dialogue describing "Tug" as "a drink, like milk and vodka." The more recent versions that I have seen simply say "milk and something."

The initial trailer was red band. The MPAA has strict rules about "objectionable material" in the green band traulers, and I think two high schoolers talking about alcoholic drinks with familiarity would fall under that category. Perhaps it was altered for a green band?

I was wondering why the trailer was red band. I saw it a few times, but I didn't really notice anything suspect.

Abob Teff 03-21-06 01:53 AM

I didn't even catch the redband on it before . . . duh.

I saw it last Fall at Mill Valley and I thought it was tedious and unintentionally silly - didn't see what all the Sundance buzz was all about.

Giles 03-21-06 08:42 AM

btw, this movie is also talked about here:

Brick.....Has anyone seen this movie?

Peep 03-22-06 12:52 PM
