Is X3 going to be the end of a trilogy?
I was at a comic book store the other day (was looking for something nerd cool for a nephew who hates me), and just realized how much XMen stuff there is. There is probably enough material to make a movie a year until the end of the world. So I'm wondering if they're doing the standard Hollywood Trilogy that has been so prevalent of the last decade. Or a larger set akin to ANoES or Police Academy

Not exactly what I intended. Are there going to be more films with this group? Or is this the end.
And I think my wording wasn't all that misleading. A series like Harry Potter, or A Nightmare on Elmstreet have many films but you don't call the first 3 a trilogy. Or do you?

I believe that there is now a subtitle added to this film ala X2: X-Men United. All news accounts for the movie that I've read in recent weeks are referring to it as X-Men: Last Stand. I think that at the least, this title infers an end to this arc of the X-Men storyline. However, there are other various projects supposedly in the works. These include a Wolverine spinoff, which is pretty much a sure thing (even though I feel as if these films may as well be called Wolverine & Pals), and a Magneto film (I'm far more excited about this prospect, although I have know idea if it would be a prequel film, therefore robbing us of another wonderful performance from Ian McKellen).
So, even if this is the end for this part of the franchise, there looks to be plenty of X-men fun in our future as long as it does well (Last Stand being a decent film wouldn't hurt either, let's see how that works out).

I know I'd be up to more films. With 40 years of comic stories, I'm sure they could work some into more films. The have basically ignored the other big villians since they keep using Magneto.

I think you ment franchise.. but no, wolverine will bring in plenty of cash for Fox and they'll do another X-men if they can get the folks back.. Hell, even if they can't they'll still do it as X3 showed.

Oh, I thought Jack meant that a character stayed but the actor changed. But yeah Night Crawler was my favorite character in X2. Was he written out or did Cumming just not want to do it?

While I would love for X3 to kick ass, I have the feeling the reason the studio is touting this one as the last is because they have little confidence in it to deliver like the other two.

The Wolverine film will be next, I mean the guy is the most popular character, if they can do films with him, they don't have to worry about gettnig the rest of the cast back.
Or different combination of characters in a new trilogy X4-, but it'll probabley be called somethnig else, like Xmen 3 is called The Last Stand.
Solo movies starting with Wolverine seem the ticket, they can up the blood and gore or not, and it'll still be freaking cool, I loved the character in the xmen animated cartoons in the 90s, and that wasn't any x rated stuff, popular character with adults and children.

As others have said, they will end this story arc with this movie and end the trilogy.
It's all about the dollars. That's all studios are worried about, look at all the re-treads, old tv shows, no originality left in hollywood. So, with x-men bringing in the dollars, the studio will milk them as long as possible and probably even way past their welcome.
X4 will probably just be different mutants than we have seen with a few others from past films (depending on contracts). But they will just go with other characters leading the x-men and different storylines and wrap up this storyline with x3.

Uhg. Don't ruin this series with Gambit.
As for Nightcrawler, I heard they explain him away in the next movie tie-in game. But, last I recall, the only reason for not bringing him in because some studio head felt that Nightcrawler and Beast are too similar. I guess cos they're both blue.

If FOX were smart.. they should do a tv series based on the New Mutants. As long as they can forget about the horrible Generation X.
