They need The Sentinels (and not that crappy design that's on the DVD extras that looks like the guys from Batman and Robin drew it).

The Sentinels stories in the Cartoon were awful.

So was the Phoenix one. It basically consisted of Jean flying around causing mass destruction with her eyes shooting fire and yelling :"I am Phoenix!" whenever she got pissed.
Also, what is this crazy obsession with Gambit? I never saw the appeal of his character, personally, and I cannot stand it when people let the fact that he isn't in the movie lead them to the conclusion that it will suck without even seeing it.

There are so many potential X-Men members they could theoretically make them without the main heroes, although I'd imagine a Wolverine-less X-Men movie would take a huge hit, box office-wise.
