I think that even when Kathy Bates plays an obnoxious or "mean" character her natural likable quality still comes out.

Yeah Jason Lee is pretty likeable in any part he has played in a Kevin Smith movie but i think Brodie wins over Banky (of his character in Dogma).

Brodie is certainly more likeable...but I loved every time Banky got angry in "Chasing Amy", as well.
His constant frustration was just too funny to me.

Well if Banky getting pissed at being frustrated was funny, you'll be rolling at Alan Rickman as the Sheriff in "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves".
