If anything, it was a bit too long. But no complaints anywhere else. Good, heart-warming flick.

Grade: B+

This was an enjoyable film. Paul Walker plays Jerry, a travel guide in Antarctica and has 8 huskies who are good at dogsledding, and part of his family (as much as family for a single guy who spends 6 months in Antarctica). Bruce Greenwood plays a scientist looking for Mercury meteorite, and finds himself in Antarctica looking for it. With the help of Jerry and the 8 huskies, they embark on a journey filled with wonderful shots of a frozen continent, and some hazards that require leaving the huskies behind to evacuate from the coming winter storms.

Jerry is crushed by not being able to make it back to go get the huskies, and struggles to find a way back, even just to see how the huskies fared in one of the most brutal winters in the past quarter of a century (film is set in 1993).

This films isn't a film for kids who may problems with the food chain when it comes to survival by the huskies. But the huskies are really easy to love and root for as they fight for survival from not only the climate, but also for substenance.

I give it 3 stars, or a grade of B.

My reaction to the ending of the film:

Spoiler:
I had tears welling up, and it was hard to hold them back, so I gave up and just them go. I'm a softie for animal films, I guess.

I liked this movie a great deal...And Ill admit to crying a couple of times. Last time I cried at a movie was My Dog Skip and Shelter Dogs (obvious pattern). Its refreshing sometimes to be able to go to a nice family film and not feel like you are being dumbed down to. The dogs were great, and were the shinning star in this one. It would be interesting to here more about the "true" story this was based on. Hopefully this one will do well at the box office this week, to offset that damn Date Movie.

Greatest Game Ever Played was terrible. Miracle was...eh, not bad, and Glory Road/Remember the Titans were pretty much the same movie. Disney hasn't been 'on', as of late.

My fiancee and I have a beautiful white Siberian Husky, and my fiancee is crazy about this breed so she had to see it on opening night. Even although there were only 10 people during the showing (although the whole theater seemed to be empty), I want to give it a big thumbs up.

Yes, it is a family Disney movie with some uhm okay moments, but overal a very enjoyable family movie (finally something that doesn't have Steve Martin in it or is a cartoon) with a heart. Highly recommended (especially for dogs/husky lovers!)

I enjoyed it, though the relationship aspect is pretty hokey. The dogs and scenery are beautiful and it's a good, heart-tugging survival story.

I really enjoyed this movie. I give it 3 out of 4 stars.

The dogs were incredible. Correction though. The 2 in the back, Buck and I can't remember the other one's name (I think his name was Shadow), are Alaskan Malamutes. That's why they're so much bigger than the other 6.

Also, I haven't seen Snow Dogs, but a lot of these dogs also appeared in that movie.

Max, the young one who takes a primary role in the movie is easily recognizable on the cover of Snow Dogs.

Just saw it today with my wife and our 5 year-old daughter. I've been around huskies most of my life, and all our daughter has ever known is our 9 year-old Siberian, so it was a given we'd see this film.

The story was emotionally intense, but just fantastic. I don't know the details about the true story that inspired this, but I just cannot imagine going through what "Jerry" and the dogs had to endure. My daughter started sobbing early, and her mom and I were not far behind her. She's seen our husky do a lot of the things that Max and Mya do in the movie (the "commando crawl", knudging food, asking for permission to eat, etc) so I think it really hit home with her.

When we got home she ran to Kita (our Husky) and loved on her for about 20 minutes. Kita kept looking at me as if to say "What the heck is this all about?", but in true Husky spirit she stayed put and endured it all.

So...highly recommend this one. It's most definitely an emotional roller coaster of a film, but an amazing one at that.

If I am correct the true story was in 1958 in Antartica. Two Japanese exployers who had to leave the dogs behind because of the bad weather. One year later they found two of the dogs alive.

Pretty enjoyable flick. I'm not a big animal person, but even I was caught up in this movie. Frank Marshall did a decent job of balancing the animal action with the human storyline and I didn't find the movie too long like some have mentioned. One of the better movies out right now (but with what's out there, that isn't saying a whole lot).
