Superman I is the best of the four. Superman II is actually a very good sequel, but doesn't have the magic that the original had. The original is one of those few movies like Star Wars, Rocky, and Back to the Future, where everything worked, the characters, the story, and the whole production, and has that rare movie magic that you can't explain when watching it.

Superman III & IV suck, don't even count them in the series, Superman II was the last Superman movie I recognized.

I'll go with I, followed by II. I prefer to think of the third and fourth movies as not even happening. S1, despite its flaws (like Luthor being too much of a bumbler for my tastes and that "reset button" finish) just has a special magic to it. Rewatching Superman's first night of action in Metropolis still gives me goosebumps. S2 hasn't aged as well for me -- too much corniness (I hate how the director would interupt that great battle at the end with stupid comedy gags). Still, a worthy follow-up. S3 was one of the most disappointing theater experiences I ever had.

I like the villains in Superman II. Even the big dumb guy. The lady villain was 10 times hotter than Lois Lane. So I'll go with Superman II, based on the fact that I liked the three villains better than I liked anything in the first Superman movie.

One
Two
Four
Three

Though they all had their flaws. (not to say I didn't enjoy them all.. well, three always has been hard to make it through for me)

Superman II. It's been awhile since I've seen Superman I in its entirety. I remember liking it, but I don't remember how much.

I didn't care for III and never saw IV.

I guess I like Superman I the most although I like II just about as much. The problem with both of those movies are the endings. At the end of II Superman's powers go crazy. What's with taking the symbol off and turning it into reynolds wrap or something? The same thing with the hologram/teleporting and white beams. What's that about? The end of the first one I can live with, but I would have liked to see more explanation of why turning the Earth backwards and then forward again without having to stop the missiles a second time works. All they needed to do was show Superman turn time back far enough to give him a shot at stopping both missiles. But maybe I shouldn't question movies. I thought all the other parts of the movies were great.

Superman III is redeemable because of the humor and bad Superman. The villians were terrible. I thought the concept of a Nuclear Man in Superman IV was good, the movie just turned out bad.
