Harry Potter 5 Casting News

According to Mugglenet.com (who cited Warner Bros) casting has been announced for seven main roles for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007).

Imelda Staunton (Vera Drake) - Delores Umbridge
George Harris (Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Interpreter)- Kingsley Shacklebot
Robby Jarvis - Young James Potter
Michael Wildman (Casualty, The Merchant of Venice) - Magorian
Helen McCrory (Count of Monte Cristo)- Bellatrix Lestrange
Natalia Tena (About a Boy, Mrs Henderson Presents) - Tonks
Evanna Lynch - Luna Lovegood

I don't know who any of those people are.

FantasticVSDoom 02-02-06 07:44 AM

Imelda Staunton I recognize and will make a capable Umbridge, although when reading the book Judy Dench kept popping into my head as what she would look like. Beyond that dont recognize any of them, although I dont think those roles are screaming for anyone in particular, with the exception of Lestrange maybe needing someone a little menacing.

I know Raiders like the back of my hand, but even I didn't know who this guy was until I looked it up on the IMDB.

He's the guy who played Katanga, the boat captain. "Mr. Jones. . . I've heard a lot about you, Sir. Your appearance is exactly the way I imagined!"

I've never seen him in anything else, so this'll be neat if it pans out. And Kingsley Shacklebot's a cool character, too.

Imelda Staunton... ?! ... awesome - the casting for the film series has been brilliant. I keep on thinking Peter Mullan might hop on board at some point.

I love him in Boy Meets World.

My favorite part of seeing Goblet of Fire was when all the 13-14 year old girls in the theater all said with disdain "Boy, he got fat" when Potter appeared on-screen.

I'm not sure Judi Dench is "toadish" enough .... :)

I agree, but for some reason thats who I imagined...Sometimes an image just pops into your head and you go with it.

shizawn 02-02-06 11:04 AM

George Harris was also in Layer Cake. He kicked ass in that role.

Kal-El 02-02-06 11:13 AM

Who the fuck is "Magorian"? Phoenix is my least favorite book so can someone refresh me who this character is? I might even skip this one in the theaters. I'll just wait out HBP. :D

neocheddar02 02-02-06 04:44 PM

Magorian was one of the centaurs at the end of the book
Spoiler:
when the trio leads umbridge into the forest

I don't remember the role even being that significant.

Jason 02-02-06 04:53 PM

Luna Lovegood? I guess Amanda Huginkiss was unavailable...

sherm42 02-02-06 06:25 PM

If you mean Cho, yes, she has some significant scenes with Harry in book 5.

Evanna Lynch, who will play Luna Lovegood in the fifth Harry Potter movie.

Duder 02-03-06 12:45 AM

She looks like she could be a good Luna. Though what really matters is her ability to act spacey, which we can't judge too well from a still picture.

FantasticVSDoom 02-03-06 07:51 AM

Isnt she a bit too "cute" to play Luna?? Well I guess they could ugly her up a bit...

sherm42 02-03-06 11:14 AM

Luna was never really describes as ugly, just flakey.

Damed 02-21-06 08:33 AM

Apparently Gary Oldman will not reprise his role.

I always imagined Patricia Routledge of Keeping Up Appearances in that role.

Hmmm ... I wonder what the backstory with that is. Talk about causing a major continuity problem.

That's odd because Sirius Black plays an important role in the book. I don't know how they're going to show the pivotal scene with Sirius Black in the Ministry of Magic without him being there.

Sheesh.

PixyJunket 02-21-06 12:55 PM

That site simply indicates that they have not yet approached Oldman to continue the role.

True, but since it's obvious casting is in full swing, and production is to start soon, wouldn't they have secured Oldman earlier? He's quite a diverse actor and can sign on with any film, while the kids are obviously attached to HP no matter what.

Seems like what Fox did with Singer and X-Men to me. ASSUME he's waiting to be signed whenever they get around to it.
