The Origin of Jason. According to fangoria.
This means 2006 will see: Jason, Leatherface and Hannibal as bratty kids with issues.
You can always count on hollywood to overexplain things that don't need it.

I could picture this as a comedy - little Jason falling down a flight of stairs, gets angry - kills someone, gets hit by a car, rips out some kids' throat - like some spastic teenager with ADD and 'nine lives' - 'Goddamn, puberty was such a bitch!"

The Friday the 13th flicks rely on gore for its scare factor, and the jump-into-camera 'shock' which about got a few zzz out of me. The 80s horror was in a train wreck with these slasher films, it could never compete with actual horror like the 70s stuff which tried innovation instead of cop-out gore. Nowadays this slasher stuff exudes a snore fest.

I suppose I'm the only person not minding this news. Friday the 13th movies, bad as they may be, are a guilty pleasure of mine. I've long given up on hoping for the franchise to go one way or the other, and just let it take me where they will.

The best story they could have done would be for someone to send Jason X from the future to kill Jason's mother in the past to keep Jason X in the future from causing so much trouble. That would ROCK.

What in the world could they explain about him we already haven't learned from countless rehashes in sequels?

I'd much rather see a Nightmare on Elm Street prequel with real life pre burnt Freddy. That actually has a little more potential.

Wasn't the first Friday the 13th practically a prequel? Afterall, it was his mom who was taking revenge on the counselors that neglected to help her son, right? What more can be said in a prequel?
Having said that, I love Friday the 13th movies, and Jason X is a guilty pleasure of mine. Bring it on!

Variety reports that New Line Cinema, ending a long period of speculation, is moving forward with a new FRIDAY THE 13TH movie. And it's coming sooner than might have been expected; the studio is aiming to have the film in theaters Friday, October 13, 2006. Rather than a FREDDY VS. JASON follow-up, the new feature will go back to explore the origins of Jason Voorhees. That's all that's been reported right now, but we'll be looking into this and bringing you updates just as soon as we can. —Michael Gingold
Hmm..what could they explore prior to #1? He was a kid. And in two they only mentioned what happened in 1. If it was his teenage years, ole Crazy Ralph would have known about it.
(Not that they have ta have any real line to the movies, but...)
Just watched Freddy Vs Jason the other night. Is it old news that Kate from "LOST" is an extra in it?

Ive heard its not necessarily a prequal, someone said on the fridaythe13thfilms.com forum that the origins thing was taken out of context and there really just going back to jason 2-4 style films. Theres alot of speculation but i guess nothing on the plot is for sure yet. Im just glad were getting a new movie in this franchise, now hopefully they will bring on a new Nightmare on Elm street.

I am making this up, but here is my idea... He was a sick little kid which is why the other kids made fun of him so much. He tortured and killed animals, started fires, touched the little girl down the street, etc. He had no friends so his mom thought camp would be good for him. Turns out not so much, he drowns and goes to hell. (Evil kids can go to hell.) Being a kid in hell, one of only a few, the devil grew to like him. He looked out for him and gave him strength. We get to see him maturing in hell for a few years. Until, seeing that he had a killer instinct inherited from his mother, the devil makes a deal. I will let you get revenge for those who tormented you and killed your mother. All you have to do is not let kids have sex or drink. (Little known fact, but the devil hates drinking and sex.)
