Why did people pay for big mammas house?!!?

matrixrok9 01-28-06 12:54 PM

Wow, I'm surprised Big Momma will make more than $20 million for the weekend. Good to see Narnia passing $275 million.

Mr. Cinema 01-28-06 01:05 PM

I bought Big Momma's House. It came with a free ticket. But the ads looked so bad I may not even use it. I haven't seen that many promos for it, but I guess there are lots of Big Momma fans out there.

I did like the first one, but this one looks like direct-to-video.

Matthew Chmiel 01-28-06 02:43 PM

I was wrong. So wrong. I think I'm going to be sad.

But holy fucking shit! Underworld looks like a 65% drop, and I thought it was better than the original (but that's not saying much coming from me).

NatrlBornThrllr 01-28-06 03:30 PM

A lot of people aren't the most discerning moviegoers. My roomie, for example. Trailer comes on TV: "Heh, I want to see that." After I tell him that it looks horrible, he says, "I know, but I laughed at the first one, and I love Martin Lawrence."

What can you do?

I think this was expected. Horror action sequel means heavy frontloading. That and these aren't really masterpiece cinema, but more focused on a core demographic of fans. Stil, it's a solid performance either or.

Well the first film only had around a 50% drop. By logic, Evolution should've done around the same. Not a 65-70% drop. Usually those sort of drastic drops occur for films that just have piss-poor WOM all around. Not a film that's actually getting pretty good reviews from the fans.

jaeufraser 01-28-06 04:13 PM

Well, it's hard to say. I don't imagine that the 70% drop will hold for the hold weekend. But Underworld 2 suffers more heavily from sequelitis than of course the original does. It's the bane of genre and sequels really. In the end, it's going to be a solid run for the film with 50-60 million in the bank.

I'm really glad to see Big Momma's House 2 is doing so well. I can't wait for part 3. It's gonna be good.

I dunno, usually the 3rd movie winds up being the dud and takes the shine off the first two.

Sunday Morning 01-28-06 09:59 PM

Whaddya mean? Superman 3 was the best of those films. And it features a funny black comedian. So there.

It never really occured to me until now that the two stars of that film are dead. And to make matters worse, Martin Lawrence is still alive.

Patman 01-28-06 11:29 PM

I still have no idea why people cast James Franco in films.

Give him a few more bombs and at least the lead roles will go away... hopefully only one more Spidey for him as well.

The Antipodean 01-29-06 12:49 AM

Thing is, Franco was good in Freaks and Geeks, but hasn't done much since then I've liked.

Fucking Apatow and Feig giving him good material to start off with. I shake my fist at them.

Sad it is.

Although I'm also getting sick of 'how great of a movie BB is'. Mediocre at best.

But hey, that's another discussion!
