Greatest Empire in Science Fiction...

I don't know whether I should put this in the TV or Movie section, but what is your favourite superpower in science fiction?

My favourite superpowers in science fiction is the Galactic Empire by far and the Daleks.

I would say the Spaceballs, but I'm not sure if they're actually an empire. I mean, they do have a president.

And they had a superweapon that had a setting that could switch from "suck" to "blow"!

I like sci-fi as much as the next guy but I'm not familiar with several of these "empires". How about the movie or series they are from as well.

it's not a movie, but in Isaac Asimov's Foundation, the empire spanned the entire galaxy and was able to control the entire galaxy

I don't consider the UFP an "Empire."

But, I'll give my vote to the Borg. They're badass.

That's cause the majority of the selections are from either Star Wars, Star Trek, or Babylon 5.

I refuse to believe that the Vorlons or Shadows couldn't eradicate the Galactic Empire in one day, maybe two.

He said Science Fiction, not SF movies or TV, so I pick this one.

I agree. I voted for The Shadows as they were the one on the list that always provided the most suspense and dread.

Both the Shadows and Vorlons were galaxy spanning superpowers for millions of years and they had access to un-Godly technology.

But the Galactic Empire is a galaxy spanning superpower as well and the Death Star seems to be a match for a Vorlon Planet Killer or a typical Shadow ship. Unless we never got to see the real Vorlon and Shadow battle-fleets in Babylon 5.

What is the Catholic Church's level of technology? How much territory do they hold? How big is their space navy? Do they have superweapons?

The Galactic Empire sucked! Their foot soldiers couldn't shoot the broad side of a barn!

True, but what does that say about the denizens of the planets it ruled for some 23 years?

Okay, I just realized I only knew six of these. I confused Vorlons with Vogons.
