Oh great! Now the movie is ruined. Actually do not remember this part what so ever but guess that it's a nod to the original Rat Pack version.

I haven't seen it. I don't really know the significance of it. Obviously a movie this old can be discussed without spoiler tags in the thread, and those (like me) who haven't seen it can just avoid the thread. But the info is unavoidable when it's in the subject line in the movie forum lobby.

I've seen the movie, and have no idea what this is referring to, so it probably wasn't that important to the film?

It's a reference to a "code of honor" amongst thieves.

Elliott Gould was talking to Alpa Chino in the movie:

"You know, it's just that people like this... you know... they get all they want so they really don't understand, you know... about a life like Frank's. I mean, when you've loved and lost the way Frank has, then you, uh, you know what life's about".

It's not a spoiler in any way whatsoever. Doesn't even have anything to do with the plot. It's just one line in the film.
