Roger Eberts 12/25/05 "Answer Man" -- WTF???

http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/...gory=ANSWERMAN

Q. What's up with you not liking the movie "Murderball"? You did not include it on your year-end top 10 list. What is up with that? Do you not know anything about good movies, or do you just hate cripples?

Josh Radde, Algonquin

Is this real or a joke? Ebert gave Murderball four stars and called it one of the best documentaries of the year. But not putting it on his Ten Best list somehow negates that? I guess this is like when genre fans get pissed that Ebert's positive review of a movie they liked isn't high enough. Or maybe the Tyer Perry crusade squad has switched gears from calling him a racist to accusing him of handicappism.

I'm sure I'll catch shit for this, but honestly, I think there is a difference between a movie and a documentary. I'm not even sure how they relate to each other on the same level, or if you can even critically compare the two.

Even so, now handicappism is a word? Jesus Fucking Christ's Birthday.

^ Everything -ism is a word. I had to look it up before I typed it on here.

Also, didn't Siskel or Ebert actually put the documentary Hoop Dreams as No.1 on one of their Top Ten lists?

Ebert's reply:
A. "Murderball" was right there on my list of the year's top 10 documentaries. Earlier in the year, I gave it a four-star rating and invited it to my Overlooked Film Festival. For an example of a film I hate, you are going to have to look a little harder, maybe under the heading "Deuce Bigalow."

I don't know how long he's been doing it, but he's been puting documentaries under their own list for a while now.
