I'm going with theatrical releases. 1-5

Hostel 4 - I probably would have given it a 5 if it hadn't taken so long to get to the torture. During the beginning of the movie I thought it was starting to look like a less funny more porny Eurotrip, but then it got cool.

(1/2/06) - 2001: 6/10 - Good acting, great visuals, excellent openeing scene... weak story.
(1/3/06) - Leon The Professional: 8/10 - Great film. Natalie Portman was suprisingly good and so was Oldman with a more subtle role. Amazing cinematography and great script.
(1/4/06) - Star Trek II Wrath Of Kahn: 7/10 - Liked it, but I don't think I've ever been a ST guy.
(1/8/06) - Private Parts: 8/10 - Very funny and very interesting. I've always been a fan of Howard but this flick just pushes that even further.
(1/10/06) - Broken Flowers: 6/10 - I didn't like Bill's performance, a lot of unnecesary slow bits, and a weak ending. Although the scenes with his old girlfriends were amusing.
(1/15/06) - Serenity: 8/10 - Helluva flick. Suprisingly fresh and original. I'm going ot have to check out Firefly.
(1/16/06) - Constant Gardener: 6/10 - Great performances, but I didn't get into it very much.
(1/16/06) - Beyond The Sea: 8/10 - An all around super-cool movie. Spacey was excellent and the music was great of course.
(1/17/06) - Hustle & Flow: 8/10 - Howard was solid. Everyone was actually. A different kind of ending, but I liked it alot.
(1/17/06) - Lord Of War: 8/10 - Fantastic. Great script and great performance by Cage. Very Scorsese-esque... but that's not a bad thing by any means.
(1/17/06) - Grizzly Man: 6.5/10 - Interesting, unintentionally hilarious, and yes it has its amazing moments at times (those coming from the footage).
(1/19/06) - Hard Boiled: 8/10 - Awesome. Incredible action, great flick.
(1/20/06) - Serpico: 6.5/10 - Pacino was great.
(1/24/06) - Two For The Money: 6.5/10 - I Loved the first half of the movie, didn't like the second. Way too predictable. But I suppose that it's innevetable.
February
(2/1/06) - Capote: 7.5/10 - Phil Hoffman has once again done a helluva job... totally immersed in his character. Hope he gets the gold.
(2/2/06) - Nick of Time: 8/10 - Surprised I hadn't heard of this before. Depp & Walken are fantastic and it's a pretty solid thriller.
(2/4/06) - Dukes of Hazard: 7/10 - A lot better than I thought it was going to be. Got a lot of laughs out of me.
(2/8/06) - Good Night & Good Luck: 8.5/10 - Amazing direction, flawless acting, excellent cinematography, and a very polished look. One of my favorites of last year.
(2/13/06) - Enron: The Smartest Guys In The Room: 7/10 - Anything that can successfully explain the whole Enron fiasco to me and still remain entertaining has gotta be well made.
(2/15/06) - The Ninth Gate: 7.5/10 - I thought the ending was a little disappointing after all of it, but it was pretty cool throughout.
(2/16/06) - Cocktail: 7.5/10 - Cheesy 80's Tom Cruise movies... love em.
(2/17/06) - Elizabethtown: 7/10 - Had a few excellent scenes here and there... and of course with any other Crowe flick: awesome music. It didn't seem as personal as his previous efforts and felt more fabricated. But I did enjoy it and would love to see the longer cut.
(2/23/06) - The Weatherman: 7.5/10 - Solid flick. Very interesting performance from Cage and Caine as well actually.
(2/28/06) - LA Confidential: 8/10 - Very well done. Awesome cast.
(2/28/06) - Walk The Line: 8.5/10 - Been waiting to see this one since the day it came out. Finally saw it... loved it. Damn, what a flick.
March
(3/2/06) - Nine Lives: 8/10 - The concept is hard to imagine but it all works incredibly well. Excellent acting. Very insightful.
(3/4/06) - Dave Chappelle's Block Party: 8/10 - Great tunes, great laughs... I liked it a lot.
(3/9/06) - Rent: 8/10 - Very well done... everything from the music to the cinematography. That Chris Columbus makes directing seem so easy.
(3/17/06) - Layer Cake: 7/10 - It wasn't perfect, but I liked it a lot. I'm looking forward to Craig as Bond in the next installment.
(3/18/06) - V For Vendetta: 8/10 - Definitley has the most badass action scenes of the year. I was tingling like a horny schoolgirl by the end. Also has an interesting and timeley message that's hard to ignore.
(3/23/06) - The Squid & The Whale: 8/10 - Very interesting performances, lots of dark humor, and even touching. It hit home a little bit for me, so I definitley dug it. I thought Jeff had a great performance in this one. Awesome job by Noah, can't wait to see more from him.
April
(4/2/06) - History Of Violence: 7/10 - A little slow, but reasonably so. Great performances and a very satisfying ending.
(4/4/06) - American Movie: 8/10 - Hilarious, interesting, entertaining, and very inspiring.
(4/6/06) - The Comedians of Comedy: 8/10 - Very funny. Loved it.
(4/6/06) - Brokeback Mountain: 7.5/10 - Gripes aside, I liked it a lot, thought it was a great movie, but wouldn't by any means forward all of the praise it has gotten. Great acting across the board and a suprisingly good job by Ang.
(4/14/06) - All The Presidents Men: 8/10
(4/15/06) - Fun With Dick & Jane (2005): 5/10
May
(5/13/06) - Stand Up & Deliver: 4/10 - Not very good, but sorta watchable, at least if you're sitting in school like I was. Better than learning.
(5/20/06) - Winter Passing: 6.5/10 - Good movie, with great performances, and an excellent job by Ferell (open mic scene).
(5/22/06) - The Producers(2005): 7/10 - Seemed like it was pulling a lot of it's punches, but still funny and entertaining. Ferrell, again, excellent.
(5/26/06) - X-Men 3: 6/10 - Definitley not as good as either 1 or 2. Could've used a little more meat. Effects were top notch though, and entertained me.
June
Superman Returns: 8/10
Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang: 9/10
July
(7/5/06) - A Prairie Home Companion: 8/10
(7/6/06) - Munich: 8/10
(7/6/06) - Pirates Of The Carribean Dead Man's Chest: 8/10

(7/24/06) - Clerks 2: 7.5/10
(7/29/06) - Superman: 7/10
August
(8/2/06) - Following: 7.5/10
(8/2/06) - Mystery Alaska: 8/10
(8/4/06) - Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby: 7.5/10
(8/18/06) - Snakes On A Plane: 7.5/10
(8/20/06) - Apocalypse Now: 9/10
September
(9/3/06) - Little Miss Sunshine: 8.5/10
(9/4/06) - Akeelah & The Bee: 8/10
(9/8/06) - Accepted: 7/10
October
(10/6/06) - The Departed: 9/10 - Loved it... fuckin loved it. Everything from the way Marty weaves his camera, Leo and Damon knockin boots with Jack, big Alec Baldwin, the music, and Marky Mark being a brilliant hardass. It all far surpassed my expectations. Although I was a little confused at the beginning (the good guys are bad, the bad guys are good... I almost forgot who I myself was rooting for), there's nothing to point to but great directing as everything was piecing together while the ride was still goin.
(10/22/06) - Click: 8/10 - Suprisingly moving and touching. Liked it a lot more than I thought I would. Some decent acting by Adam here, well done sir.
November
(11/10/06) - Borat: Cultural Learnings of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan: 8/10 - Hilarious.
(11/18/06) - Casino Royale: 8/10

(11/25/06) - The Ice Harvest: 8/10
(11/25/06) - Detroit Rock City:7/10
December
(12/16/06) - Rocky: 9/10 - Classic loved it.
(12/16/06) - Rocky II: 8/10 - Kind of a re-hash, but still excellent.
(12/19/06) - Rocky III: 9/10 - Loved Rocky & Apollo teaming up.
(12/19/06) - Rocky IV: 8/10 - Didn't really like the Russian, but still excellent.
(12/19/06) - Rocky V: 7/10 - Not as bad as I thought. Dug it.
(12/20/06) - Dr. Detroit: 6/10: Very farfetched, but funnier than I thought it would be.
(12/20/06) - Blood Diamond: 8.5/10 - DiCaprio was excellent again. Great story.
(12/29/06) - Gladiator: 9/10
(12/30/06) - Strangers With Candy: 6/10

2 The 40 Year Old Virgin (2005 / Unrated / 133 / USA / Judd Apatow / DVD / Unrated Version) ****
6 The Warriors (1979 / Unrated / 93 / USA / Walter Hill / DVD / The Ultimate Director's Cut) **** - Can you dig it?!?! Yes I can.
15 War of the Worlds (2005 / PG-13 / 117 / USA / Steven Spielberg / DVD) ***1/2 - Loved the visuals. Plot was somewhat lacking, esp the ending.
15 Wedding Crashers (2005 / Unrated / 128 / USA / David Dobkin / DVD / Uncorked! Extended Edition) **** - One of Vince Vaughn's best performances since Swingers. I laughed out loud a few times. If you like the trailers you should like the movie.
16 Knockaround Guys (2002 / R / 93 / USA / Brian Koppelman / David Levien / DVD) ***1/2 - I liked it more than I thought I would. A good cast deliversgood performances. Although the storyline was somewhat predictable, it was still well executed.
17 Joe Versus the Volcano (1990 / PG / 102 / USA / John Patrick Shanley / DVD) ***1/2 - I saw it in the theatre whe it first was released and didn't really care for it. After a 2nd viewing 15 years laters I found it to be much better than I remembered. I appreciated the visual style a bit more.
18 Red Eye (2005 / PG-13 / 85 / USA / Wes Craven / DVD) ***1/2 - Not bad. Some plotholes but a decent thriller. Good job by McAdams & Murphey.
22 The Constant Gardener (2005 / R / 129 / USS / Fernando Meirelles / DVD) ***1/2 - A well crafted movie all around. Very powerful, but for reasons that I can't finger, I didn't really care for it.
23 Grand Theft Parsons (2003 / PG-13 / 88 / USA / David Caffrey / DVD) *** - Not a very good movie, but it had a few funny moments.
28 Cinderella Man (2005 / R / 144 / USA / Ron Howard / DVD) **** - Like most of Ron Howard movies, I really liked it but didn't love it.
29 Dickie Roberts Former Child Star (2003 / PG-13 / 98 / USA / Sam Weisman / DVD) ** - I wasn't expecting much when I saw it and that's just what I got.
29 Millions (2004 / PG / 98 / UK / Danny Boyle / DVD) ***1/2 - A quirky comedy, Alexander Nathan Etel who plays Daniel does an outstanding job.
29 Trois couleurs: Bleu (1993 / R / 98 / France / Krzysztof Kieslowski / DVD) ***1/2 - Very good performance by Juliette Binoche. I appreciated this film more than I actually liked it.
30 Kingdom of Heaven (2005 / R / 144 / USA / Ridley Scott / DVD) **** - Nothing groundbreaking but still a stunning film to look at, as well as well written and a a good performance by a great cast.

February
2 Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005 / PG-13 / 119 / USA / Scott Derrickson / DVD) **** - Well written and executed, not a horror movie but it has it's moments.
4 Must Love Dogs (2005 / PG-13 / 98 / USA / Gary David Goldberg / DVD) ***1/2 - Good cast, some good moments but as a whole unbelievable and it fails to hit the right notes.
5 Brothers Grimm (2005 / PG-13 / 118 / USA / Terry Gilliam / DVD) ***1/2 - A fun movie, but not much more than that.
10 Four Brothers (2005 / R / 109 / USA / John Singleton / DVD) *** - I really liked certain moments but as a whole the movie seemed unfocused.
11 Fantastic Four (2005 / PG-13 / 106 / USA / Tim Story / DVD) **1/2 - If it wasn't for Jessica Alba I'd have given it even a lower rating. The two male leads were awful. I liked the fx, the secondary actors and the basic premise. The film utterly fails in the script and the two male leads.
12 Time Bandits (1981 / PG / 116 / UK / Terry Gilliam / DVD / Criterion Collection) ***1/2 - Haven't seen it in years but just as good as I remebered it.
13 The Corpse Bride (5005 / PG / 76 / USA / Tim Burton & Mike Johnson / DVD) ***1/2 - Wasn't great but still fun to watch.
14 Italian Job, The (1969 / G / 99 / UK / Peter Collinson / DVD) **** - I really enjoyed the remake, but found the original to be more fun.
15 Two for the Money (2005 / R / 122 / USA / D.J. Caruso / DVD) ***1/2 - I enjoyed it but found it unbelievable. I did howerver enjoy watching McGounehey, Russo and Pacino.
16 Two Days (2003 / R / 87 / USA / Sean McGinly / DVD) *** - I liked some of the performances, had a few funny momennts but it didn't quite live up to it's aspirations.
17 Elizabethtown (2005 / PG-13 / 123 / USA / Cameron Crowe / DVD) ***1/2 - I really liked 80-90% but it has a few moments where it doesn't ring true. It might be one where it might grow on you after additional viewings.
18 Just Like Heaven (2005 / PG-13 / 95 / USA / Mark Waters / DVD) ***1/2 - A bit contrived but enjoyablr none the less.
18 Serenity (2005 / PG-13 / 119 / USA / Joss Whedon / DVD) ***1/2 - Never saw the orignal TV series but I enjoyed it, a fresh take.
19 Broken Flowers (2005 / R / 106 / USA / Jim Jarmusch / DVD) **** - I really liked it, solid understated performance from Bill Murrary. I can see why some would think it's a tad slow and self indulgant, but it worked for me.
20 A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001 / PG-13 / 146 / USA / Steven Spielberg / DVD) ***1/2 - A bit lounge and thought the final act was unneeded.
21 Mr. 3000 (2004 / PG-13 / 104 / USA / Charles Stone III / DVD) *** - Bernie Mac was fun to watch in a predictable, tired and unrealistic sports movie.
22 Dukes of Hazzard (2005 / PG-13 / 106 / USA / Jay Chandrasekhar / DVD / Unrated) *** - One of those movies that you get exactly what you expect. So it's hard to knock it for not being more than it tries to be.
23 Into the Blue (2005 / PG-13 / 110 / USA / John Stockwell / DVD) *** - I wasn't going to see this, but my Jessica Alba rule overrules my Paul Walker rule. It was actually better than I thought it'd be, although still fairly predictable.
25 Saw II (2005 / R / 93 / USA / Darren Lynn Bousman / DVD) ***1/2 - Wasn't as good as the first and had some problems but still enjoyable.
26 Proof (2005 / PG-13 / 99 / USA / John Madden / DVD) ***1/2 - I wanted to like it more but it fell somewhat flat for me.
26 Thumbsucker (2005 / R / 96 / USA / Mike Mills / DVD) **** - Very touching coming of age movie, great performances.
27 Trois couleurs: Blanc (1994 / R / 91 / USA / Krzysztof Kieslowski / DVD) ****

March
5 Hustle and Flow (2005 / R / 116 / USA / Craig Brewer / DVD) **** - Great lead performance. I was surprised by just how much I liked this film.
9 The Weather Man (2005 / R / 101 / USA / Gore Verbinski / DVD) **** - I really liked this movie. Cage did a great job playing a man it was hard to feel for, but you still did.
11 Seeing Other People (2004 / R / 90 / USA / Wallace Wolodarsky / DVD) ***1/2 - Enjoyed this small film, smart, funny with good cast.
10 Zathura: A Space Adventure (2005 / PG / 113 / USA / Jon Favreau / DVD) ***1/2 - Didn't live up to the hype. It WAS Jumanji in space!
11 Ice Age (2002 / PG / 81 / USA / Chris Wedge / DVD) ***1/2 - Solid family movie, my two girls both enjoyed it.
12 Rent (2005 / PG-13 / 135 / USA / Chris Columbus / DVD) *** - YAWN!! I watched thisand was bored to tears.

Hm nevermind my star system I was doing, it started to seem foolish to rank some of these by stars. Films are an experience alot of the time so I am stopping doing that. Once I started trying to assign stars to Bergman or Tarr it started to feel dumb. I mainly started this to keep track of what I was watching.

Worth seeing (somewhat of a ranking list here)
Werckmeister Harmonies (Bela Tarr)
Au hasard Balthazar (Robert Bresson)
Le Samourai (Jean-Pierre Melville)
The Squid and the Whale (Noah Baumbach)
A History of Violence (David Cronenberg)
Winter Light (Ingmar Bergman)
Smile (Michael Ritchie)
The Girl from Monday (Hal Hartley)
Five Easy Pieces (Bob Rafelson)
The Silence (Ingmar Bergman)
Fucking Åmål (Lukas Moodysson)
L'eclisse (Michelangelo Antonioni)
Through a Glass Darkly (Ingmar Bergman)
L'Argent (Robert Bresson)
Election (Alexander Payne)
The Passenger (Michelangelo Antonioni)
Junebug (Phil Morrison)
Waiting for Guffman (Christopher Guest)
Match Point (Woody Allen)
Metropolitan (Whit Stillman)
Pitfall (Hiroshi Teshigahara)
The New World (Terrence Malick)
Capote (Bennett Miller)
Rififi (Jules Dassin)
Best in Show (Christopher Guest)
Kind Hearts and Coronets (Robert Hamer)
Good Night, and Good Luck (George Clooney)
LolliLove (Jenna Fischer)
The Beat That My Heart Skipped (Jacques Audiard)
Night and the City (Jules Dassin)
The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (Tommy Lee Jones)

I would pass
The Professionals (Richard Brooks)
Kiss of Death (Henry Hathaway)
Don't Come Knocking (Wim Wenders)
