Screw Ebert! What are YOUR top 10 films of 2005?
Go ahead and rank 'em!
1. Batman Begins - I'm sorry, I absolutely LOVE this film! 2. Sin City - Yeah, it's still good. 3. Walk the Line - Great movie. 4. Cinderella Man - Kinda sappy, but in the good way. 5. A History of Violence - Great film. 6. Lord of War - Funny, dramatic, and educational. 7. Crash - Matt Dillon is hilarious. 8. Chronicles of Narnia - Way better than that Harry Potter crap. 9. Jarhead - I liked it so go screw yourself. 10. The 40 Year Old Virgin - The funniest comedy in years. I have yet to see Capote, King Kong, Good Night and Good Luck, Syriana, and a bunch of other films. But I've seen almost everything I've wanted to see. |
I only have enough for five...Syriana, Munich, and The New World will probably be included once I see them.
1. Cinderella Man 2. Batman Begins 3. Crash 4. Sin City 5. Walk The Line |
A Top 5, probably expanded to 10 when I see enough movies to warrant it
5) Munich 4) Brokeback Mountain 3) Sin City 2) Batman Begins 1) Crash |
Way too early for me personally.

The best movies i remember from this year are:
Serenity Batman Begins 40 Year Old Virgin Sin City King Kong |
Not in any particular order:

1. Batman Begins - A perfect film in every way right down to Hans Zimmer's Thundering score
2. Lord of War - Nobody plays a cold-hearted bastard better than Nicolas Cage 3. King Kong - Has a heart and soul that the original was lacking 4. Saw II - Brilliant twists and truly horrifying moments. 5. Assault on Precinct 13 - An excellent R-rated shoot 'em up 6. 40 yr old virgin - The chest hair ripping scene alone is worth the price of admission 7. Wedding Crashers - Rachel McAdams - 8. Serenity - I had never seen the TV show but I was surprised this good this is 9. The Weather Man - Cage is the king of deadpan humor 10. Sahara - A guilty pleasure with some great action set-pieces |
Screw Ebert was definitely not one of my favorite movies of the year. I found it highly disturbing and wished that they had at least used a body double in some scenes.

My favorite movie of 2005 hasn't even been mentioned in any list so far, Ebert or otherwise.
I thoroughly enjoyed The Exorcism of Emily Rose. I thought there was something really special and unique there. I realize it's not everybodies cup of tea, but why is this movie being completely overlooked? Especially in a year of highly mediocre to terrible films. |
Not seen, yet: Syriana, The Constant Gardener, Pride and Prejudice, A History of Violence, Brokeback Mountain.
Until then.... 01. King Kong 02. Crash 03. Munich 04. Capote 05. Cinderella Man 06. Walk the Line 07. The Squid and the Whale 08. War of the Worlds 09. Junebug 10. Sin City noteworthy: Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, Batman Begins, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Good Night, and Good Luck, Jarhead, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Red Eye. |

2046 Pride & Prejudice Domino Lords Of Dogtown, my favorite of the bunch Crash Charlie & The Chocolate Factory The Boys & Girl From County Clare Kung-Fu Hustle Two others, SW Revenge Of the Sith & Sin City: But they both sucked. And I won't get to see it until tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure it'll wind up being my favorite of the year: Memoirs Of A Geisha. |
Can only think of five right now:
Batman Begins War of The Worlds Sin City Zathura Pretty Persuasion |
I pretty much only watch movies on dvd so my list is only the top ten of 2005 up to roughly August.
1. Sin City 2. Cinderella Man 3. Mr. and Mrs. Smith 4. Murderball 5. Batman Begins 6. War of the Worlds 7. The 40 Year Old Virgin 8. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory 9. The Island 10. March of the Penguins |

Fantastic film. |
Batman Begins
March of the Penguins History of Violence Good Night, & Good Luck North Country Devil's Rejects |
Some of the Oscar contenders haven't played here yet, but I am mighty keen on these movies:
1. The Devil's Rejects 2. Sin City 3. Serenity 4. March of the Penquins 5. Batman Begins 6. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory 7. Harry Potter & The Goblet of Fire 8. The Chronicles of Narnia 9. Crash 10. Mr. and Mrs. Smith I also really enjoyed Three...Extremes, but am unsure if it counts as 2004 or 2005. High Tension is also a personal favorite, but I saw it last year so it isn't fair to count it I guess. |
Believe it or not, my favorite movie of 2005 is Bruce Willis' HOSTAGE. I thought it was fantastic and believe it's really underrated.
Other favorites (in no particular order): Harry Potter & The Goblet of Fire King Kong Serenity War Of The Worlds Walk The Line Sin City Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit |
No Order
King Kong Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith Good Night and Good Luck Serenity Batman Begins Walk The Line Sin City Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit The Chronicles of Narnia Layer Cake |
1) Batman Begins - well directed, everything just flowed together
2) 40 year old Virgin - Loved the scenes at his work. Co workers funny as hell. 3) Cinderella Man - Opponent at the end was one dimensional, but everything else made up for it. 4) Chronicles of Narnia - Battle scene was better than any of Kingdom of Heaven's. Plus I read the book in grade school. 5) Exorcism of Emily Rose - Loved the fact that the movie let the audience decide if Emily was really possesed. 6) Devil's Rejects - Funny movie, I laughed so many times. Ending had me cracking up. 7) Saw 2 - Way better than the first. The traps were cool. 8) The Island - Would've made the top 5 if it wasn't for the stupid action scenes. 9) Sin City - 2 of the 3 stories were good. Visually impressive. Didn't care for the acting 10) Harry Potter - Beat out King Kong because it was more consistent. |
