It makes me happy to see Jennifer Connelly on numerous lists. :)

Charlie Goose 12-06-05 10:15 PM

I'm just going with active performers, because folks like Jimmy Cagney haven't done much lately to get my interest.

Clint Eastwood
Edward Norton
Morgan Freeman
Johnny Depp
Denzel Washington
Kate Winslet
Jodie Foster
Jim Carrey
Martin Scorcese
Quentin Tarantino

Quake1028 12-07-05 03:38 AM

How in the hell could I forget Edward Norton and Christopher Nolan :hairpull:?

Awesome to see Kate Winslet on so many lists . I think she is the best actress going today.

eedoon 12-07-05 07:46 AM

There's a lot of directors from the past that would guarantee my interest (too many for me to keep up with), so I'll just stick with current director:

Cameron Crowe
Bob Zemeckis
Steven Spielberg
Hayao Miyazaki
Brad Bird

Not that I'm saying that there are no other good director besides them, but they're among the top of my list.

Johnny Boy 12-07-05 05:33 PM

Quentin Tarantino and that's it. I don't mind buying everything he does because he has yet to disappoint me. Even though his portfolio is small, I'm 95% confident that I'll like whatever movie he makes in the future.

There's a lot of other great directors, actors, and actresses that peak my interest, but all have disappointed me at least once during their career (even if it was only a minor disappointment, it still counts).

I'm a huge Uma Thurman fan, but The Avengers sucked monkey toes. And so did she, in that monkey movie. I'm a big Pacino and De Niro fan, and young Bobby De Niro gave some of my favorite acting performances of all time. He's my favorite overall actor. But lately..... let me put this a "nice" way and just say that Pacino and Bobby didn't age gracefully like Jack Nicholson did.

Tarantino hasn't disappointed me yet, and so he would be the only one where I buy everything.

Streep every time.

AnonomusBob15 12-07-05 05:47 PM

Directors - David Lynch, PTA, Cronenberg, Wes Anderson, David Fincher, Scorcese (I will see anything they put out opening night)

Actors - Tom Cruise, Edward Norton, Peter Sarsgaard, Depp, and to a lesser extent Brad Pitt.

Actresses - Francis McDormand and maybe Natalie Portman.

Writers - Charlie Kaufman

nodeerforamonth 12-07-05 06:04 PM

Directors: Peter Jackson, Lucas, M. Night, Kevin Smith, Quentin

Actors: none. They're all idiots.

SeekOnce 12-07-05 07:16 PM

Anything by Christopher Nolan and M. Night will guarantee my arse in a theatre seat.

Al_Tahoe 12-07-05 08:56 PM

Director... unfortunately, all of my favorite directors are dead (Hitchcock) or retired (Bergman... except for Swedish TV). If I had to go with a current director I'd probably go with Oliver Stone or the Coen brothers.

Actor... Johnny Depp

Actress... Jodie Foster

starry 12-07-05 10:28 PM

Directors - Spielberg, Coens, Ridley Scott, Peter Weir
Actors - Crowe, Gibson, Depp
Actress - Blanchard

lmwong1977 12-08-05 01:47 AM

Christian Bale, Ewan MacGregor, Mark Wahlberg

Drexl 12-08-05 02:28 AM

Directors: Spielberg, Jackson, PTA, Fincher, Tarantino, Scorsese, maybe Zemeckis

Actors: none really except Cruise, with an explanation.

It's not that that I necessarily like to see Cruise's work, but he only does about one movie per year, and can pick whatever he wants to do. Of course he gets paid well, but I don't think he does things just for the money nowadays (except maybe the M:I sequels). So, if Cruise decides to do a film, it's probably going to be worth seeing.

Big Quasimodo 12-08-05 03:14 AM

Directors: PTA, Almodovar, Ozon, Majid Majidi, Noe, (add Mallick)
Actors: Day-Lewis, Garcia-Bernal, Sean Penn, Monica Bellucci :D

lamphorn 12-09-05 01:10 AM

Directors: Woody Allen, PT Anderson, Spielberg, Tarantino, Scorsese, James Cameron

There are no actors that bring me to a movie... I really go for the director or if the movie looks interesting, no matter who's in it.

Directors I avoid: Oliver Stone, Chris Columbus, Joel Schumacher
