Robocop remake. :(

It's far too early to tell if the remake is going to be awful or not. The remake of RoboCop could be as excellent as Batman Begins.

I'll keep an open mind and see what happens...

The Antipodean 11-15-05 11:52 AM

Terrible idea.

Giles 11-15-05 11:54 AM

it will be nowhere as violent as the unrated Verhoeven version - they're just gonna pussify it.

Gee, I wonder if they're going to "re-imagine" Robo's suit as well?

Superboy 11-15-05 12:37 PM

Robocop was an original idea, as opposed to Batman Begins. So I don't see how the two correlate.

yeah, they're going to add little indent nipples.

This is a terrible idea. The original was a classic and simply could not be better. Its not fair to say that they could do something similar to what has been done with the Batman franchise simply because until Batman Begins came along that series was lacklustre at best. The original Batman film was not very good at all.

The better option would be to take the original Robocop (the version released by Criterion with the extra gore), and then CGI all the places that could do with it (ED-209 could be done perfect now). I would encourage something like this...maybe in time for the 20th anniversary in 2007. But a remake is an awful idea.

I WON'T buy that for a dollar!

Oh no you didn't!

I like how all these remakes are further increasing the likelihood that today's generation won't watch a movie that's more than 10 years old.

scottall 11-15-05 02:58 PM

They should remake bad movies in an attempt to make them better. They could start with Robocop 3.

Tyler_Durden 11-15-05 03:39 PM

I don't see the point, and can't imagine the remake being as relevant in these times as the original (which is a brilliant satire in my opinion) was in the late '80s.

Will Leeza Gibbons be in this one too?

What a terrible terrible idea.

TylerDurden_73 11-15-05 04:17 PM

Can't anyone in Hollywood think of something original? I can't wait for them to remake "Booty Call"

DRG 11-15-05 04:30 PM

I'm hoping this plays more as a kickass updated sequel than a complete reinvention. Obviously they will be doing a new character as Robocop, basically a new origin story. But as long as they don't change the Robocop suit/look I'll just pass it off as a sequel and judge it by those standards.

I guess my thing is I can't really get too worked up about remakes of movies that have had terrible sequels, because IMO a bad sequel taints the memory of a movie than a bad remake does.

Geofferson 11-15-05 04:56 PM

There is no better villain in cinema history than Clarence Boddicker (well, outside of Jerry Reed's Bama McCall in Gator, but that's beside the point) and if not Kurtwood Smith, who would play the villain in this go-round?

Agree 100%. The Michael Keaton remake was much better :)

Tarantino 11-15-05 05:09 PM

The only way I'd ever see this is if there was a competant director who won't, as someone earlier said, 'pussify' it, and if Gary Oldman played Clarence Boddicker.

I wouldn't have as much of a problem with a RoboCop the next generation than a straight out re-make.

Outside of some obvious ED-209 stop motion, the original has aged well.

Fok 11-15-05 10:04 PM

Well they fucked up bad with part 3 and the TV series....hopefully they don't follow suit with this new movie.

I hope they make it so he can fly this time.

There is no hope for "Robocop 3".

Why would one want to re-make Robocop? Has the world ran out of ideas?

Do a Robocop: Next Generation or something and leave the great movie alone.

Bluebomber 11-16-05 12:10 AM

I for one have no problems with this, the series has hit such lows that the only place left to go is up. As long as the satire and violence is kept intact i'm all for it.
