What worked for Batman Begins can work for Robocop. I want Robocop fighting on the police force, at odds with the encroachment of privatized homeland security.

Perhaps Frank Miller can write the script, and have it used!

Enjoyed the first one, and would like to get a hold of the Criterion version. A remake could be good, although I would prefer a good sequel.

Hollywood has been remaking movies since the beginning. Lookup the "Movie Connections --> remake of" section of IMDB sometime. Some "classics" are like the 3rd or 4th remake of movies that no one even remembers. The remakes ended up being the one people remembered and loved.

Personally, I think the Batman Begins Analogy is actually on target.

Xander 11-16-05 10:13 AM

The problem with that analogy is that Batman Begins isn't really a remake. The Keaton Batman movie wasn't really an origin story of Batman. It established the origin of the Joker, but Batman was already established as a crime-fighter at the beginning of the movie, pretty much.

A remake of Robocop just seems like a dumb idea to me. A remake of a movie that barely came out 20 years ago? How many of those have been better or as good as the original? Not too many of the ones I can think of. Plus, unless they keep all of the satire and violence in it, it's going to be a watered-down hackjob. And that's probably what will happen.

But look at this....

It seems to me it's going to be a new movie retelling Robocop's story and NOT a literal "remake". Or am I reading this wrong?

Boddiker was downright nasty...

Retell/remake, isn't that just semantics? Seems like a very similar concept. They're taking the creation of Robocop and retelling it. Isn't that what a remake usually is? I mean, sometimes they're like the remake of Psycho, which was pretty much the same movie (only worse somehow), but generally isn't it a reinvention of the same idea? I don't know. Either way, it seems like a weird idea to me. I don't know...

I only have 1 rule, if it's PG-13 I won't see it. My favorite thing of 80's action movies is all the sex, over the top violence, and gore. I REALLY miss that in today's sanitized action movies.

SINGLE104 11-21-05 12:38 AM

Robo Cop was released in 1987, which makes it only eighteen years old. Is it really necessary for a remake?

FRwL 11-21-05 02:12 AM

The first one was classic 80's gorey scifi action. The second one was good too, so underrated directed by Irvin "Empire Strikes Back" Kershner.
There's some funny parts in a sick way like when the guy's face is melting.

Well, Batman was 1989, and tehy renewed that franchise already.

There's a HUGE difference between a renewal and a remake.

Cruel Intentions didn't come too far after Dangerous Liasons

I don't consider Batman Begins as a remake from the original story of Batman (1989). Batman Begins has an entirely new, and different synopsis.
