Who said that?

I know there's a lot of Peter Jackson fans, but just because you hit a home run the last at bat doesn't guarantee the next one.
You don't say!

As far as the trailer goes, visually it looks great - lot's of detail, nice choreography, etc. However, the movie itself seems... well.. dull.
So you dis people for saying the movie looks good based on the trailer and then make your own assessment based on the trailer?

The actors look like they're overacting (green-screen syndrome?) and I don't know about the casting selection. It also looks like Jackson threw a little Titanic here, a little Lord of the Rings there, then topped it off with some Jurassic Park.
Dude, you've seen exactly two minutes of the movie chopped up and re-edited...how could you possibly know what you're talking about?

I do hope it does well at the box office, however. I don't have a desire to see Jackson fail or anything. It's just that the movie doesn't look like its breaking any new ground.
Once again, how could you possibly assess a 3 and a half hour movie based on 2 minutes of reedited footage?

I disagree. I thought the wide shots of Kong looked a bit off and hokey. I wouldn't say it was bad, but it didn't floor me or anything. People's opinions on what looks good is going to vary quite a bit. You can dig up discussions about the CGI in the Hulk movie for proof of that :p

the only thing i wish is for kong to be bigger

decemberlove 11-05-05 12:53 PM

Saw the trailer last night before Jarhead, and while I was impressed with Kong, I thought NYC looked incredibly fake on the big screen. Also, the other dinosaurs were weak, as were parts where Naomi is falling and Kong catches her, or whatever happens.

This looks like a video game to me...

Some video game system you must have...

I certainly wouldn't attribute the positive views of the trailer to Peter Jackson-FanGuy-Syndrome.

I haven't seen a Peter Jackson movie since The Frighteners. I wasn't interested at all in any of that Lord of the Rings stuff, but this trailer has made me excited for this movie.

Artman 11-05-05 02:10 PM

Meh... I won't say it looks bad. it's just that I would've gone in a different direction with the visuals...and actors... I don't think the previews have been as effective as they could be, but that falls on the marketing.

We need to stop with the "videogame" comments. There's not a single cutscene in any videogame made that can come close to the effects in big budget Hollywood films, even the ones with bad effects.

raven56706 11-06-05 12:17 PM

see from that pic....... Kong looks so small.... he should be bigger

bareva 11-06-05 05:03 PM

Simply amazing--Im so there.

Mr. Cinema 11-06-05 05:23 PM

After seeing the full trailer before "Jarhead", I am 100x more excited about Kong now than I was a few months ago.

maingon 11-06-05 05:46 PM

isnt this movie gonna be shown in digital theaters? if so it will look amazing.

mndtrp 11-07-05 02:18 AM

Looks cool to me, I'll be there.

RichardW 11-07-05 07:50 AM

I'm ready to see this after viewing the trailer. I loved watching Kong swat that plane out of the sky.

LivingINClip 11-07-05 09:26 AM

I can't say I am thrilled.

1: Kong looks...Well, he just doesn't look that great. I mean, I know it is state of the art CG, but for some reason it just isn't working. I don't "feel" it.

2: All the dinosaurs and giant insects just make me think of Jurrasic Park with an Ape.

3: Jack Black.

I think it has more to do with the fact that aside from Kong, nothing seems new about the trailer. Dinosaurs? Seen it. Creepy dentally-challenged guys? Seen it. Big ship about to crash onto something? Definitely seen it before. I just bought the DVD 2 weeks ago actually. I'm still gonna see it, but I just think you guys are over reacting too much on the comments of those who weren't as impressed as you are.

saw this also before 'Jarhead' - at the new AMC theatre at Tyson's Corner on the H-U-G-E screen # 3 - WOW!

Giles 11-07-05 11:48 AM

question - what is the film's aspect ratio - is this going to be 2.35 or 1.85. I know that Spielberg shot Jurassic Park in the intent that 1.85 conveyed size and dino-to-human dimensions better than the stretched out 2.35 aspect ratio.

nevermind just looked over at IMDB - it's 2.35. Too bad this wasn't formatted or released in IMAX. Universal and IMAX should just release this in mid January after the Harry Potter craze has somewhat subsided.

 If the reviews are excellent I will see it, but Black is like nails on a chalkboard to me.

Groucho 11-07-05 11:49 AM

Theres a subtle hilarity in this thread when one reads the posts from people who obviously haven't seen the original film.

or they saw the 1976 remake without the dinosaurs.

LivingINClip 11-07-05 02:59 PM

It isn't so much the dinosaurs, tho I do wish they would of went a different route, it's just the whole take on it seems to fall flat, judging by the trailer, in my opinion of course.

Then again, my biggest problem is with Jack Black.

AnonomusBob15 11-07-05 06:27 PM

I can't imagine Peter Jackson making a movie that I wouldn't like. I think he got the fantasy feel down perfect.

As for the way Kong looks, I think he looks fine, and when he's moving around, he looks much better than standing still.

It looks like a well made, carefully planned action fest. I don't too many of those any more.

sureAV421 11-07-05 06:46 PM

has anyone figured out how to save the 1080p version to disk?
