got it to go...dig it

William Wallace 11-04-05 03:12 AM

The T-Rex looks good, but the rest of the dinosaurs aren't impressive at all.

I mean, they aren't "so fake" or anything, but I just kind of expect more from the same team that worked on LOTR.

FWIW, I too thought the CG wasn't perfect, but darned if that trailer didn't enable me to suspend my disbelief unlike any other I have seen this year. The only bit I didn't like was Naomi Watts yelling "NOOO!" , that's a little too Star Warsish ;). Aside from that, I loved the way Kong took out some of those planes and charged the Rex.

fumanstan 11-04-05 09:42 AM

Looked OK to me. Still not particularly hyped up about this movie.

raven56706 11-04-05 09:58 AM

Just saw it in HD 720p on my LCD 42inch....... i just creamed myself

The only part that really bothered me with regards to being "fake" is with the actors in the fight with Kong and T-Rex.

As for the CGI, everything looks great, especially Kong. But 3 hours long, c'mon, I could watch the '33 version 3 times and be equally thrilled. Let's hope its not like the '77 version of all hype and all crap.

I think Jackson is overrated, but this just might vibe with an audience. I'm stilled not jazzed to see it, but when I do, I hope its good.

maingon 11-04-05 02:43 PM

whats with alot of the overrated, looks so-so stuff? the trailer was awesome. the movie looks beautiful and the visuals look awesome. dont know why some people are saying it looks so-so

Anubis2005X 11-04-05 04:54 PM

This trailer has definitely piqued my interest for this movie. Kong looks awesome, and even the trailer's got some emotion goin' for it.

I dont' know either. I'd love to see these other movies that had such superior special effects cause I musta missed them.

masetodd 11-04-05 06:33 PM

Now I'm not trolling here, but it seems like people are already giving this movie 5 stars before it even comes out! I know there's a lot of Peter Jackson fans, but just because you hit a home run the last at bat doesn't guarantee the next one.

As far as the trailer goes, visually it looks great - lot's of detail, nice choreography, etc. However, the movie itself seems... well.. dull. The actors look like they're overacting (green-screen syndrome?) and I don't know about the casting selection. It also looks like Jackson threw a little Titanic here, a little Lord of the Rings there, then topped it off with some Jurassic Park.

I do hope it does well at the box office, however. I don't have a desire to see Jackson fail or anything. It's just that the movie doesn't look like its breaking any new ground.

There were plenty of films this year that had incredible effects. But I'm not about to get into an argument over which is best.

I will say this though, and it may not be popular, but the CG Mighty Joe done 7 years ago looks more convincing to me than the CG Kong. So do the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park. They have more of a "being there" look. But the film itself looks like a lot of fun and I have no problem with the effects. They look great.

Josh H 11-04-05 08:37 PM

No ones giving it 5 stars. We're just saying the trailer looks amazing and we can't wait to see it.

Same for any movie that looks great in the trailer, it could end up being dissapointed. But with Jackson, the great (IMO) cast I'd be shocked if that were the case.

Terrell 11-04-05 08:40 PM

There was a time when another famous filmmaker was called a genius. Now he's called a hack by many on here. ;) Just saying, keep expectations in check.

I agree though, the film looks like a lot of fun.

WOW. I knew it was going to look good, but I never expected the playstation 3's graphics to go that far.

This is for the video game tie-in right?

rotfl That's what I thought too! The cgi looks like a really good video game, and the dinosaurs from Jurrasic Park III look much better then the ones seen in this trailer. Now don't get me wrong, I want to see this movie...but I'm not going to swear by it like so many people seem to be. And does anybody else cringe at Jack Black's painfull voiceover?

Cameron 11-04-05 11:55 PM

I wouldn't say I'm a huge jackson fan....I like the LOTR ok, but don't hold them in the high regard that most do. I like many of his older horror movies enough to know he has some talent though...he has been pretty steady is all i'm saying.

I hate remakes for the most part...it always feels like someone is just using name recognition to make some dollars...And I love Kong. It is my all time favorite, (lord knows i chime in on it plenty on these boards)...but this is what is diffrent for me. Peter Jackson loves King Kong. He is one of the foremost authorites on the original movie, and you can tell he really cares about the story. He was working on this before Rings, and came back to it when they allowed him to. I know he also cared about developing the rings movies, and most people agree it is a pretty good adaptation, though not word for word from the original stories.

That gives me hope, that he has taken the time and effort, and dedicated the blood and the sweat to make this epic. When i heard they were going to make it i cringed a little, but after watching the production diaries and trailers It has given me hope. I won't say its a knockout until i see it with my own two eyes...but it has a chance.

Remake is a bad word. Remaking a classic can be even worse...I doubt it will be anyone's favorite Kong, including Jackson's.

LorenzoL 11-05-05 12:38 AM

I'll be standing in line to see this film when it opens based on the full trailer. King Kong looks much better in the trailer than it did on the teaser. so far.

matrixrok9 11-05-05 02:16 AM

This one is better than the teaser. It still looks too cg. SFX doesn't blend well, like it did for LOTR. Loved that they used the Batman Begins score.

No Use For A Name 11-05-05 02:48 AM

It seems to me that some people simply like to complain, regardless of how outlandish their complaints may be. King Kong might end up being a horrible movie; no one yet knows as no one has seen it; however, to compare the cgi in Kong to that of "a really good video game" is beyond ludicrous.

I took some snapshots of the trailer; I challenge anybody to find a video game that looks even remotely as good.

big pics below, as I left them at their full resolution so as not to lose any detail (beyond what is lost with jpg compression).

That was a pretty darn good trailer. Im not sure if I need to see the movie now. Oh what the hell.

I'm there!

I filled the cup... so I watched it again.

Kong will own December.

Those close-up pics of Kong someone posted above are incredible with the detail. I love how Kongs fur is all matted and dirty, and that it is obvious he has spent his whole life having to scrap with dinosaurs for survival.
I just hope the acting is decent. While I normally wouldn't care in a movie about a giant ape, it will need something to justify its three hour running time.

Also, if James Newton Howard's score for this is anywhere near his effort for Batman Begins, then I already give it a  When I was watching the movie the other night, I thought it sounded like his style would fit Kong, and they are already using it for the trailer!
