This will be one of the few movies I see in the theater this (next) year. If 3 hrs is needed, I can handle that. With ticket prices what they are, I would hope that it is 3 hrs long.

WOO HOO...great news....i always felt like i was getting the rough cut with LOTR in theaters. I welcome long movies...tickets are expensive, and it takes me three hours to polish off that popcorn.

i see why they cancelled the imax release now...the film would be too long to fit.

It's not. The 140 million dollar figure that is passed around is pretty much accurate.

Edit: I was wrong, it is up around 180 million.

I've watched the "inside look" a couple of times now. The scenes where Kong is fighting the Rex as they are falling through the vines are incredible!

Newsweek has a review of the movie based on a private screening. If you do not want to know the differences between the original and the remake or description of specific scenes, don't read the article.

That review seemed to say that it is good, but that it will probably draw criticism for its length, which it already has around these parts.

I am really anxious to see this, but after re-viewing the original this past weekend, I still fail to see how a story like this needs a three hour running time. My guess is we will get some character development, but I just don't know if audiences will sit still for it in a movie like this the way they did for LOTR.

[QUOTE]

Of course, he says it'll draw criticism for its length just because...not because the film feels too long. In fact he speaks quite positively about how the film works, despite the length.

The film itself will actually run for about an hour, and the final 2 hours will comprise of the documentary 'making of' for the film. PJ decided to do it this way so that the eventual DVD release will have the film + doco on the single side of a disc, instead of being on a flipper.

Seriously though, I hope they release a gift set DVD with a bust of King Kong included.
Hope I don't get bored, but I'll go and watch it anyway. Like most people will.

I mentioned this in the TV thread regarding last Sunday's NBC promo scene - but the film's music score sounds fantastic.

Does anyone know anything about the ending on this one?

Spoiler:
Does Kong die at the end? If so, I don't think I'll go see it. Too sad for me.

I'm pretty sure they're not going to change that. There's really no other way to do it.

Hopefully
Spoiler:
Kong still dies, but does so in a more noble way or in a blaze of glory defending Ann. I think it would be cool if he knows what's coming and falls off the building while in one of his jumps to take out a plane.

Has anyone read the Entertainment Weekly with King Kong on the cover?

Looks like George Lucas dropped by the set one day. Jackson is doing some miniature sets instead of making them CGI. Lucas tells Jackson, "You know we can do all that with CGI?"

Yeah George, that's why nobody likes your new Star Wars movies. Because that's all they are. CGI. Why do you think everyone likes Puppet Yoda instead of CGI Yoda? Because he's tangible. At least the actor is acting with something.

Sorry to get off on a Lucas rant, but that quote just summed up Lucas to me. Lazy.

Lucas reportedly said the same thing to Scorsese on the Gangs Of New York set.

As far as I can tell, most people want Yoda to be CGI in Episdoe I to match up with the other 2.

I think some people like the new Star Wars movies.

Jackson was planning for the late Fay Wray to deliever the final, iconic line since the start of production. I don't think they changed the ending.

Yeah George, that's why nobody likes your new Star Wars movies.
Speak for yourself.

Why do you think everyone likes Puppet Yoda instead of CGI Yoda?
Seems most want TPM puppet to be replaced with the digital Yoda from AOTC and ROTS. So there goes that argument.

Because that's all they are. CGI.
There is more miniature work in each of the prequels than was used in the entire original trilogy combined. There are also location shots from the Swiss Alps, the Tunisian deserts, jungle locations, etc. Plus some 70 sets. So this statement is untrue as well.

He also said the same thing on the set of March of the Penguins. Has he no shame?!

Did Fay Wray do the line before she passed?
