IMHO The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Just isn't scary, and never was!

Sorry, of course I'm talking about the original. Not the remake.

pulp fiction, its a very good movie but i dont think it deserves to be ranked 11 on imdbs top 250. I like reservoir dogs and the kill bills much better than pulp fiction but im not saying its bad.

Office Space and Big Lebowski come to mind for me. Enjoyable, a few chuckles, but I don't see either of them as being the big 'cult hits' they allegedly are.

As strange as this may seem, I actually think Pulp Fiction is slightly underrated despite how famous and talked about it is.

Some movies I think are overrated:

Titanic
Armageddon
Citizen Kane
Hero (I own this, but it was a blind buy. I hate it.)
Batman Begins (Own this too. I like it, but it's overrated.)
The Ring
Field of Dreams (If this movie were alive, I'd kill it. Sorry, it's terrible.)
The Untouchables (And not just because Kevin Costner is in it.)
Black Hawk Down (I didn't even bother selling this movie to the dvd exchange. I just gave it away for free.)
Chicago

There's many more, but that's just off the top of the head.

There are numerous threads on this subject already. Don't be surprised the mod may close this one.

i see all the usual suspects cropping up in this 100th incarnation of the "overrated movies" thread.

me? i think Midnight Cowboy didn't deserve to get an "X" upon its initial release. good of the mpaa to later downgrade it to an "R". but that's an "overrated" of a different sort.

btw, there's no such thing as an overrated movie... just movies you didn't care for that a bunch of other people admire.

Snakes on a Plane. There's no way it can live up to the hype.

Out of curiousity, which is worse?
Posting a duplicate thread [even though some of the threads it's duplicating are 2+ years old], or repeated posts in that same new thread saying in various tones of snarkiness, "Hey, this is a duplicate!" Do people just have to share their input, even when it is repeated virtually verbatim just above them?

Hero--I assume you mean the Japanese war thing, not the Dustin Hoffman plane crash thing?

Chicago--I don't know about overrated, but the live theater version was vastly better than the portions of the film I saw.

Anything Quentin Tarantino has directed. He is basically a B movie director who has some weird cult following that keeps his name around A movie circles.

Yeah, the Japanese war thing.

[edited to add:]

You didn't sell it because it was overrated?

No. The reason I didn't sell it was because I was too lazy and I knew I wouldn't get much money for it. Plus someone I knew liked the movie... so I just gave it to them.
