God I would love for this movie to set records for an opening weekend. If you're not in line to see this movie the second it opens, I really pity you and your life.

I'm not quite sure why this movie has so many people wanting to see it. I can see making fun of it but that's about it.

Because for possibly the first time since The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies, the tagline for the movie also doubles as the title. It's the cinematic equivalent of seeing Haley's Comet.

Another "Built-In" cult hit. Fucking studios are so adroit nowadays about how to sell a movie to an audience to make a quick buck that they are actually making it for them by pretending to give them what they really want. Not realizing that a real cult-hit is generated after growing word of mouth after a film is realeased and based on the actual value (or lack of) of the film itself. Not just a wacky premise and casting choice. Go ahead, give them their money ;) They need it, they paid 5 writers to come up with this crap. Movies by commitee are fun and where it's at!!!

I like debating movies, so, feel free. It doesn't come from a snobby place, really. I am a fan of films of it's ilk. I just am not a fan of the hollywoodized/bastardation versions of such. I am willing to give the film itself a chance. Just merely responding to my interpetation of the state where cinema is. And the reality of how films are being made today. I know people in the industry and honestly you'd be shocked about how many morons populate it. Though it should be obvious with the kinds of film being made...

Snakes on a plane is purely a marketing stratetgy. They are counting on us geeks to cause a fevor and make a hit for them based on words like "re-shoots" and "R-rating" that in reality should signal the movie has a lot of problems. They realize audiences are getting more saavy. And that's cool... But, i'd rather see a film that generates buzz because it's actually good or fun. And then help with generating it's word of mouth appeal. I guess that's just a preference to things being formulated for me.

Over a year ago, New Line greenlighted this flick with hopes to get Wesley Snipes in the main role and from the people I know who have read the original script, it was meant to play seriously. My friends in the industry were seriously pissed off that this film was getting made as there are thousands of good scripts out there to choose from and New Line chose Snakes on a Plane instead. However, this is one of the rare times fact that a studio has realized that they have a complete piece of shit on their hands. So what are they doing to fix it? They're "polishing" it up to meet fanboy demands. It's viral marketing at it's finest and New Line is just running with it.

When I heard the premise over a year ago at dinner, I hated it. I fucking hated it. But with all the recent developments of the past few months, I'm growing more and more to actually (and honestly) looking forward to the flick when it comes out. If that's not great fucking marketing, then I don't know what is.

Studios always realize they have a piece of shit on their hands. It's just all about how they sell their piece of shit and the deluded line producers who do their dirty work. We are living in times where the marketing game is changing and evolving. And not for the better.

All I ask is the very least they should bring back 3-D movies. At least that gimmick is kinda fun.

If that's what they're banking on, then they're not very smart. As we discovered with Serenity, internet buzz and $5 can buy you a cup of coffee at Starbucks. You could release a movie with no advertising at all, and have it accidentally make as much money as Serenity.

Yeah, during a Q&A after a screening of Hustle & Flow, this movie was mentioned. Singleton talked about the casting, and this was before anything had been announced about the movie. The second he said that Samuel L. Jackson was going to be involved, I started to laugh.

I don't think this compares with Serenity. Serenity had no stars in the cast, while SOAP has Samuel Jackson. Also, with Serenity, people who weren't familiar with the show had no idea what the movie was about, based on the title. SOAP, on the other hand...
