Match Point -- A Woody Allen Film

This does not seem to be a typical Woody Allen film but it has Scarlett so it can't be all bad.

Here is the trailer...

yes it is. shocking he is going completely different, completely. it's like Wes Craven doing "Red Eye", but more drastic. it actually looks pretty good.

How is Woody Allen doing a full-on non-comedic drama almost the same as Wes Craven just doing another thriller? Wes Craven is only known for horror/thrillers...

This is supposedly Allen's best film in a long time.

Looks to me like a full-length remake of the Martin Landaeu storyline in Crimes and Misdomenors.

Looks Fatal Attraction-esque.

I'll see it for Allen, Johansson, and Cox (who I am guessing is barely in it).

I've never seen a Woody Allen film before but this will change one Match Point comes out. The film looks great. At first, I thought the movie was going to be about tennis.

After enjoying Melinda and Melinda, and hearing all the positive press Match Point is receiving, I can't wait for this one. Nice to see Woody back on track.

I agree and I never bother with Allen films. In fact, I was kinda shocked when I saw his name attached to it.

I'm astonished at how many people claim to have never seen a film by Allen. 20 years ago that would have been inconceivable. The man's a cinematic genius.

Since he doesn't have any fart jokes in his films, I can understand why so many young people today have no interest in seeing them

i saw this trailer in front of "Proof" the other night. After the trailer was over and I saw Woody's name, I told my friend, "hey wait, i didn't laugh once during that trailer". If Nostradamus was right we'll see Sam Mendes doing dumb and dumber 3 very soon.

For Sam that would be a step up.

Can't wait. I see every Wood Allen film in the theatre and have been disappointed over and over (except Melinda was better than the other recent ones) and am excited that this one looks different.

I hope it's an improvement over his last couple of efforts. Hollywood Ending and The Curse of the Jade Scorpion were both pretty bad.

Woody Allen has been making dramas since the 1970's.

I finally got to see this last night and I thought it was fabulous.
The comparisons to "Crimes and Misdemeanors" (IMO, Woody's masterpiece) are apt and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers totally steals the movie with a remarkably chilling performance.
Honestly, I'm not sure why Johannson is getting all of the Oscar buzz. She was fine in the fiml, but I thought Emily Mortimer turned in an even better performance.
I highly recommend the film to anyone, and it seems to be doing well in limited release so far.

I generally thought the film was very good, however, I thought the before the film's midway point, the pacing was a tad muddled.
