Looks interesting. I actually enjoyed 40 year old virgin, so I'll catch this one.
|
The premise is lame. God already promised he would never destroy the world again with a flood, so it's clear Evan is not hearing from God.

Movie trailer looks ehhhh, but I will hold off till I see it, Steve is awesome.
|
The trailer didn't do anything for me but I'm glad to see Catherine Bell onscreen again.
Here is the HD trailer on Apple's website: http://www.apple.com/trailers/univer...analmighty/hd/ |
Lauren Graham
this actually looks pretty effing cool. |
This looks really good, much better than I thought; if they make this movie PG then it is going to do very well.
|
Bah... it'll never achieve the greatness of the Tony Danza classic Noah.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0158828/ ... But I agree it does look a lot better than I thought it would. |

WOW the trailor is horrible...
Looks like I will skip this... |
I'll see it because of Carell. Isn't this going to be the most expensive comedy ever?
|
I think it is worth seeing, and the premise looks funny. Carell has yet to disappoint, so let's hope this continues that trend.
|
I'd feel a lot better about this movie if it didn't have the same director as Bruce Almighty, the same writers as Bruce Almighty, and Wanda Sykes.

Saw an early screening of "Evan Almighty" tonight.
Overall, it's a pretty benign film, with Carell doing some funny physical comedy as he struggles to deal with God wanting him to build an ark. Wanda Sykes gets most of the quick quips for laughs. The 1st act is a little stiff, but once God enters the picture, it finds its legs and is paced well all the way to its concluding act. The film is a little predictable, but it's a film that you can take the whole family to go see without being subjected to gory or extreme violence if that's a concern. I don't think Carell outdid Carrey in the lead character department (compared to Bruce Almighty), but Carell does carry the film on his shoulders (though, it's a lightweight comedy with some underlying familial bonding through ark construction). I give it 2.75 stars, or a grade of B-. |
Thanks for the review. How are the effects? I'm hoping there pretty awesome especially considering the massive budget.

Patman - What did you think of Bruce Almighty? Just curious.
|
The special effects were okay, some of it good, some of it pretty obvious. A lot of it dealt with simply have all those animals "shown" as they make their presence known, and some others deal with animal participation to comedic effect. Obviously, there's a big boat in play as well, and those effects are perfect serviceable.
I thought Bruce Almighty was decent (with funnier gags early in the film), though I think it squandered its premise half-way through the film. Evan Almighty is a different film than Bruce Almighty in that God is not just letting Evan be God for a day like he did with Bruce, but Evan is pushed by God through gentle/funny nudges to build an ark even though it makes him look looney to everyone else not onboard with his mission. |
I really can't stand animal tricks in movies. it's so obvious. I guess I'll stay away.
|
The trailers just aren't doing it for me. It just seems too cutesy and looks like it strays too far from what made the original interesting. Maybe it's because I'm still not sold on the ark thing and it looks like Evan's a-hole side has been tamed or is completely gone here.
|
I like Steve Carrell but everything about this film just screams "paycheck" to me.
|
It wouldn' take much for this film to be better than "Bruce", which was an ok film but really should have been funnier.
|
Damn, it's sitting at 16% on Rotten Tomatoes so far. Only about 19 reviews in so far, so the score will definitely change, but that's still really poor.
