Most Overrated Actor/Actress?
Who is the most overrated actor or actress in Hollywood? Which leading man or leading lady gets more acclaim or popularity than he or she deserves?
|
any person for which the term 'celebrity' is a more fitting description than 'actor'.
|
Without question...
Julia Roberts |
 I went in expecting one of the 2 replies to be that.

Every performance he's made could have been played by Joe Blow at the corner tavern. How different is him Oscar nominated performance in WITNESS as in any other of his movies. |
I agree with Reese Witherspoon, and she has quite a large and annoying chin. It's all I notice on her face.
|
Demi Moore
Seriously, how many good movies has she ever made? Why is she so famous? |
Keanu Reeves. Well i dont know if he is hightly rated but why would anyone keep hiring him??
|
Gwyneth Paltrow
She has Cate Blanchett's Best Actress Oscar. |
Not that I think he's a bad actor, but I hate to think that, 50 years from now, people will see the Oscars that Tom Hanks has won, and assume he was the best dramatic actor of his generation... -ohbfrank-

Reese Witherspoon was great in Election and good in Cruel Intentions. Although I don't partcularly care for her screen persona.
Julia Roberts - Looks to much like her brother, but I haven't seen anything that would lead me to believe she is over-rated. Cameron Diaz - Being John Malkovich second billing. She wasn't bad at all. Rene Zellwegger - One of the few American actors to successfully pull off a brit accent. She was great in Chicago *shrug* Julia Roberts is the only one I would say that is over rated, the rest really haven't been billed as great actresses. Just having some good performances. I doubt anyone feels that Reese Witherspoon would be the next Jodie Foster? I would think to be over-rated you would have to be rated ;-P ------- My choice is .... I hate to say this .... Clint Eastwood. |
Russel Crowe
|
Julia Roberts.
Of the movies i have actually tolerated her in i cannot understand why she needs to be paid the amount of money she gets or why she gets the attention she does. |
My pics:
Actor (s): George Clooney, Owen Wilson, and Nic Cage. Actress(es): Demi Moore, Julie Roberts, and Drew Barrymoore. |

I think Russell Crowe is probably one of the greatest actors of our time. Along with Johnny Depp as well. Tom Hanks is good but I think he just gets lucky with the scripts he chooses.
I think Sean Penn is pretty overrated. He was decent in Mystic River but everything else seems mediocre to me. |
Bill Murray
He's Good, but not That good. edit: Sean Penn too. |

They hire the best professional makeup artist to do their work for them. |
I'm going to have to go with Adam Sandler. The guy just isn't funny at all. I don't understand why people still flock to his movies.
|
Julia Roberts
Rene Zellwegger Reese Witherspoon J. Lo, I can't beleive people even consider her an actress, she is terrible. I have to agree with ToddSm66, Adam Sandler is not that funny. |
William Hurt. The man plays the exact same way in every movie no matter what character he plays. Does he have any acting skills at all?
Agree with Julia Roberts, for the same reasons as William Hurt. |
Wow, two votes for Sean Penn? The Assassination of Richard Nixon, Mystic River, 21 Grams, I Am Sam, Sweet and Lowdown...the guy's come on strong since the turn of the century.

Colin Farrell. I remember that huge batch of overhype after Tigerland, which he followed up with... American Outlaws. While I like some of the movies he's been in, most of his roles (SWAT, The Recruit) could have just as easily been played by Paul Walker.

Re: Most Overrated Actor/Actress?
I’ve really never understood why so many people love Johnny Depp. He was always liked by some and I think that his Jack Sparrow role really catapulted him over the top for some people. I’ve always thought he was kind of bland and don’t really like most of the films he’s in. Actually one of his only performances I like is in a film that I don’t think was that popular (Black Mass). |
Re: Most Overrated Actor/Actress?
This is an easy one: Seth Rogen.
