Bob Morton (Miguel Ferrer)

Morton a bad guy? Wha? He was RoboCops champion, he just liked a little coke and whores. Can't blame a guy for that can you?

He wasn't pure evil like Clarence or Dick, true. He was in training and played out of his league.

Bob Gunton was remarkable in that part. I couldn't see why he didn't get an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

Hey man thanks for the reminder I didn't really give specifics but you prompted me to go put tags on what little I did reveal

Did anyone mention Pacino in "The Devil's Advocate" man he plays a really cool bad guy in that one, pretty likably bad really.

This thread is as old as the site itself, but still fun. Can there truly be any “best” villain?

Some more of my favorites:

What if The Alien and Darth Vader had a baby?

Jacinto from The Devil’s Backbone

Spoiler:
(the armpit stabbing scene was so satisfying)

Tetsou (aptly named, horribly)

and...
James Caan as Joe Sarno in The Way of the Gun.. In a movie populated predominately by villains, he was the king.

Does DeNiro count as a bad guy in Taxi Driver?
Spoiler:
He did save Jodi Foster at the end and come out looking a lot like a hero, i think he was kinda psycho in the middle of the film, but again he did redeem himself, not really a villian in my eyes.

Can't believe nobody has mentioned Agent Smith from the Matrix Trilogy. Looking at the first post, it looks like the definition we're going for here is the "coolest" bad guys, as in bad guys who are just so cool you gotta love 'em. So here we go:

Darth Vader (Star Wars)
Agent Smith (Matrix)
Tony Montana (Al Pacino - Scarface, he really was a bad guy...)
Vincent (Tom Cruise - Collateral)

Nope he had his morals like no killing women or children (which pissed off his cocaine partner causing the invasion on Tony's mansion) and only killed those that deserved it like his boss who ordered that secret hit on him, he even let his boss's assistant work for him after he offed the boss and the crooked cop. He's what many of those in the gangster/mob/dealer movies are- an anti-hero. Still the protagonist.

John Doe from Se7ev came to mind as soon as I read the topic.

I'm sure I have other picks and I'll post them later.

He may be the protagonist of the story, but a murder / cocaine dealer is still a villain in my book - even though I love the character. Oh, I also can't forget:
Spoiler:
Viktor - from Underworld, he was the coolest character in the whole movie

I don't really buy Nurse Ratched from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. She did some good things, and IMHO she definitely was a gray character, not exactly a bad one.
I'd have to agree with The Terminator. Someone mentioned that Arnold's becoming good in T2 made it impossible to choose the terminator, and perhaps there's some truth to this, but looking at T1 as just ONE film and not part of a series, I'd have to say Arnold there is excellent.

or

or Maxxx Orbison in Orgazmo:

Seriously though, for some that have not been mentioned, I'd have to go with:

John Lithgow (in both Cliffhanger and Ricochet)

Maximilian:

Michael Douglas for not even knowing he was the "bad guy":

Ronny Cox (Robocop, Total Recall)

Pig Vomit:

And lastly, I'm suprised no one mentioned:
