A Wookie in THX 1138

I was watching TXH 1138 with subtitles on, and the scene where TXH steals the car, one of the voices on the radio reports that he ran over a Wookie on the express way. And there it is in subtitles, capital W "Wookie."

So was that an addition to the movie through Lucas' tinkering or does that line exist in the original cut of the movie and Lucas named Chewbacca's people in homage to his own movie?

Watch the sound design featurettes with Walter Murch and leave us alone...

Honestly, you'll find your answer detailed there.

Hmmm....I was just looking for a yes or a no. And since I was borrowing the DVD, I just watched the movie and was going to buy it at a later date.

The Wookie line has always been in THX-1138.

Wait...did the subtitle say "Wookie" or "Wookiee", 'cause it could be big trouble in nerdom if it's the former?

And you deserved one; however, Murch's insights into the sound design on THX-1138 deserve your attention even more so, so I declined to give you the easy way out.

What part of the DVD is it on? I won't see the friend I borrowed it from until the weekend, so maybe I will have time to catch those bonus features after all.

On Disc One of the 2-disc set, there is a feature called "Theatre of Noise" which, while also offering an isolated music and effects track, has a series of interview segments with Sound Designer Walter Murch. You'll find his comments on this curiosity there. If you only have the single disc version, then I believe you're out of luck.
