American Psycho
I enjoyed watching Mr. Bale play his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman, so I decided to watch one of his earlier films, American Psycho. His performace was outstanding however, I have a quick question. Something I never understood. What happened in the end?
Unfortunately, reading the book is not in my near future and I really want to know what happened!!!

The movie = He did kill all the people this is comming from the director and screenwriter.
The book = He did not kill anyone and this is comming from the author brett easton ellis. He said so in an interview a couple of years ago.
So
Movie = Crasy killer
Book= Just crasy
And there is no real way of telling in the book either but we do get hints every now and then. Such as during a car chase scene in the book. He sudenly start refering to himself in a third person in the middle of a chapter. As if he was writing about himself or watching a movie about it happening. And the whole thing about the atm machine talking/communicating to him, can give you hints about it.

And you should read the books as it is an amasing book. I have read it three times myself and it is the only book i have ever reread. And while you are at it you should also read
Less than zero.

They are all exelent books.

I have yet to read the book, but I have picked up a copy.....I need to get around to doing that at some point....
but my take from the film has always been that the murders did happen (although many people disagree with that and I can also see that as a very valid interpretation). If he simply imagined the whole thing, the entire dark satire of 1980s greed and vanity sort of vanishes. The reason he returns to that apartment to find all the bodies gone is because they were cleaned up by the real estate people who did not want a scandal about their precious property. The woman who tells him to leave and never come back speaks to him in a very odd way as if to suggest that she suspects it was probably him responsible for the bodies....... It's that scene in particular that convinced me the murders really did happen. Also he was able to get away with his confession about the murder because all his "friends" and co-workers as so self-obsessed that they can't even tell each other apart and confuse each other so easily.....so the guy he did confess to thought it was all a big joke because he thinks some other guy is Bateman and Batemen is someone else. The entire movie is a scathing critique of 1980s capitalism. Of course all the murders and other events in the film are EXTREMELY exaggerated in his mind, because he also is completely nuts.....

finally watched this today.
it got GTA there towards the end. kind of funny when the cop car explodes and he looks at the gun funny
the end had me totally confused though as I too wasn't sure if he really did it or if it was all just in his head

And I thought the real estate agent or owner didn't want to lose the money for the sale of the place, and to show societies decline of values, they cleaned the place up rather than reporting it to the police.

I saw a screening with the 2 writers/filmmakers and at they were ,of course, asked about their ending. They WANTED to make it clear that he did commit all those murders but obviously failed, by their own admittance. The director said she would have directed the last scene differently now. I even took notes, which I still have
