A couple that come to mind are Catch Me If You Can, Memento and Contact (though was this against opening credits or just visuals?)

TomOpus 08-12-05 10:27 PM

Cronenberg's Crash

Fincher Fan 08-12-05 10:33 PM

Since Seven and Fight Club have already been mentioned I'll throw in Panic Room. There is something eerie about those titles.

Just to annoy you... didn't you get the memo?

I like the ones in The Island of Dr. Moreau (Kilmer/Brando version), as well as Catch Me if You Can, and Signs. In older movies, North by Northwest was a good call, as is It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World.

And Apocalypse Now. :)

Once Upon a Time in the West is really tough to beat.

I also like The Third Man...but that's more for the music than the scene.

Yeah- I forgot about those. Really cool. One of my favorites for sure.

Hostage had good begining credits. I also like Re-animator's credit sequence too. Oh, and Event Horizon. Spooky music.

OldBoy 08-13-05 10:15 AM

even though i didn't like the movie at all, "Napoleon Dynamite"'s was pretty creative.

I'm absolutely flummoxed, nonplussed, staggered, bewildered and perplexed that the only correct answer hasn't yet been mentioned. This category is OWNED by...

SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE!

Thank you. I was wondering when someone would mention that film. I pop in the DVD sometimes just to watch the opening credits(too bad they changed the whooshing sounds).

Other favorites of mine include the first two Terminator movies, Speed, From Russia With Love, A Few Good Men, and The Fugitive if for no other reason than the credits last over 15 minutes into the movie.

Another vote for Superman. I still remember how incredible it looked on a 70mm screen back in the day. I felt like I was soaring through the credits the entire time. Williams' music also helped a lot. :)

The Terminal also had a cool opening title sequence. Even though the credits appear at the end, West Side Story is another favorite of mine.
