For this thread, let's leave the Star Wars prequels outta it. They are great, let's leave it at that

I actually liked Cube Zero

I would have left it at that if you left it at "let's leave the Star Wars prequels outta it". You just had to squeeeeeeeeeeze that "great" part in there didn't ya?

Anyhoo, I honestly can't think of ONE prequel that's any good. Sure I can live with Temple of Doom, but I don't count that as a prequel.

IMDB's list of prequels:

http://www.imdb.com/List?tv=on&&keyw...ing=19;prequel

Nothing really stands out except for Temple of Doom and Godfather 2 - neither of which I really think of as prequels...

Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me if you consider it as a prequel to the TV series

Why isn't Temple of Doom a prequel? GL said he intended it as a backstory to take place before Raiders.

Temple of Doom and Red Dragon are both good, but neither are better than the original. I'm not sure if there is one that is better than the original.

Edit: I like Amityville II better than the first one.

I enjoyed Missing In Action 2: "the beginning" over the first one.

Godfather 2 isn't a prequel...it's a sequel with flashbacks!

You didn't need to include that, no one was going to mention them anyway.

I'd leave them out too but not because they are Great. Mediocre maybe.

They question is a hard one as there arent many good Prequels. Prequels usually don't work because you know what is going to happen already.

Red Dragon (the book) was written before Silence of the Lambs so can it really be considered a prequel since it was done before ?

I would definitely include ROTS, but that's just one man's opinion.

Batman Begins is not a prequel. It's just a retelling of Batman's original.

I always considered Red Dragon a remake of Manhunter (1986), but that's just me.

I guess technically it is...I just don't think of it as a prequel since it really doesn't provide any back story to Raiders of the Lost Ark. The idea that it was set in a time frame before Raiders isn't really apparent while watching the movie - nor does it really matter what time frame it was set in. Prequel...sequel...doesn't really matter with the Indy flicks, as they can all stand on their own.

Can't it be a remake and a prequel at the same time?

Not since it was written before SotL. It is the first book in a series. There is no prequel.
