I was thinking of that, but I don't know if it a prequel. At the end Blondie acquires the trademark poncho, which suggests it is the beginning of the trilogy, but I can't think of any events that would definitly put it before the first two chronologically.

Exactly. And furthermore, the film version of Red Dragon was released first (as Manhunter). Then Silence, then Hannibal. Remaking Red Dragon doesn't make it a prequel at all.

The upcoming Young Hannibal will be the real prequel.

I felt that Paul Shrader's Exorcist: The Beginning was a pretty solid prequel.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is good. It's the first Indy movie I saw so I have special place for it.

I thought that was retitled to Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist to differentiate it from Renny Harlin's schlockfest.

Hmmm...never thought of it that way. I think the trilogy is supposed to be individual films with the same character like the Indy movies. The last one is supposed to be the finale and I always took the acquisition of the poncho at the end as signal that the blondie character is indeed the "man with no name" who finally has his "poncho of power" if you want to get into super hero talk stuff.

Is the craptacular Alien vs. Predator the only movie to be both a sequel AND a prequel? (i.e. it's a sequel to the Predator movies, but a prequel to the Alien movies)

Favorite Prequel

How about:

(1) God of Gamblers III (prequel to God of Gamblers) starring Leon Lai which I liked better than God of Gamblers I or II.

(2) I concur with Infernal Affairs II better than Infernal Affairs.

(3) Iron Monkey - a prequel to the Once Upon A Time in China series starring a young Wong Fei Hong.

(4) One could argue that A Better Tomorrow III is better than A Better Tomorrow.

Considering how you interpret certain parts of FIRE WALK WITH ME, it could be considered both a sequel and a prequel to the TWIN PEAKS series.
