I've been waiting 8 freaking years for a new film by this director, so I can't wait to see this one finally. Why in the world has it been taking so long to get this film distributed? It looks fantastic.

Figured I'd bump this, the movie apparently comes out in limited release this Friday (May 9th, 2008).
The acting seems stiff, and the movie overall seems a bit corny and predictable, but it may be worth seeking out on the big screen for the obvious reason of... kickass visuals:
Spoiler'd for space:
Pretty much every shot in that damn trailer works as a still.

Just assumptions off the trailers, I over analyze everything. It could be fantastic for all I know (I really like The Cell despite its shortcomings).

A few more reviews popped up on rottentomatoes, all positive (did they do some tinkering with the movie?). The best damning praise I've seen in a while:
"It's the most glorious, wonderful mess put onscreen since Terry Gilliam's Brazil." - The Onion A.V. Club
Similarly,
"If the human details are often problematic, the IMAX-grade bombast, ceremonial camera, and Jodorowsky-esque eclecticism still combine for a singular spectacle." - Village Voice

I just hope Roadside Attractions gives this a release outside of the major markets. To be honest, I think the only Roadside Attractions release Vegas has ever gotten was Super Size Me (for obvious reasons).
If Vegas gets the flick, I'll be first in line.

I just saw The Fall today and it's one of the best movies I've ever seen. It's like a dreamlike combination of The Adventures of Baron Manchuasen and Pan's Labyrinth directed by Alexandro Jodorowsky and Robert Altman. I haven't seen such a great recent film since The New World. I don't think I've ever seen such believable child acting as that little girl in The Fall. It's almost like she didn't know she was in a movie and was just acting normal.
Here's my top 20 favorite movie list now:

Totally agreed, on several of your points, although I didn't quite think it was one of the best movies I'd ever seen. My girlfriend and I enjoyed it, the visuals were quite beautiful.
I see that it's only in 9 theaters 6 of which are here in LA.

Thought that was pretty neat.
I would see that as so.

I caught this today and was blown away. The story struck such a nice tone and stayed with it; sometimes these fairy tale movies tend to get too dark or serious, but I really like the way the story Roy was telling weaved in and out of reality. The girl was absolutely precious and perfect; she was a little girl through the whole movie without it turning her precocious or wise-beyond-her-years. The imagery was absolutely amazing; it reminded me a lot of Koyaanisqatsi and Baraka with the wide vistas that we've never seen before in any movies. This movie might be the one that forces me to get a Blu-ray player when it comes out on video.

That is a really jaded and cynical review. Fairy tales and stories of that nature aren't always supposed to be logical and sensical. If you liked Pan's Labyrinth, Brazil, Baron Munchausen, and Time Bandits most likely you will like this movie.
