Say it isn't so.......Spielberg to do an ET sequel?????

Heard this on the entertainment report on KISS108 this morning.....have not been able to find any substantiating news yet.....

They said that Speilberg wants to do a, for lack of a better word, sequel to ET with Drew Barrymore playing the motherly figure in the movie. I really hope this is not true. I just don't see it being able to be any where near original and fresh.

Oh well. We'll wait and see......

Well, he already ruined the first one when he put it on DVD. I can see him doing a sequel - he has no shame.

Does War of the Worlds count as a sequel?

Hasn't there already been a made-for-tv sequel?

Maybe he meant an E.T. like movie with Drew Barrymore as the mother figure. I don't see an actual sequel happening.

Who do you think tipped the invaders off about Earth?

Yeah, phone home, my ass! He tricked us and called in the Invasion instead!

And now I understand what he was busy doing in the woods:
Spoiler:
burying machines!

E.T., how could you?!

Please, no! The walkie-talkies and Atari 2600 game were punishment enough!

I hear that it's a remake, and Dakota Fanning will play both Gertie and Elliott in a dual role.

He wont make a sequel. He just said recently and in the past years that he will never do one...

It's Drew, not Steven, that wants a sequel...and apparently Steven is considering it:

But I doubt seriously if Steven will do it...

I thought they already wrote a script for the second one, but abandoned it and then turned into that ET ride at Universal Studios?

That's what I vaguely recall, anyways.

That ride is/was a sweet experience, and my guess is they didn't want to build something as elaborate as E.T's home world and only use it once, so they made a ride out of it.

If they do a sequel that involved the home planet, I am sure Spielberg will employ GL's blue screen method to do the scenes.

Ever since I first read the book, I wanted to see a movie version of the true sequel to E.T., The Green Planet. If Spielberg would attempt to do that, I'd be interested. Anything else, and I would say the man is running out of ideas.

If he wants to do another ET movie, how about doing Skizz instead, should Alan Moore let another Hollywood director tackle another one of his works after the horrendous job done on V for Vendetta. Skizz was ET before ET came to the theaters!

Aye, those walkie talkies completely ruined the story for me.

Even in making of Docs for The Lost World, he has said that he was never going to do a sequel for ET...so he was doing Jurassic 2 to please the fans who kept asking him to do a sequel... He could deny fans an ET sequel but Jurassic was not as close to his heart so he felt fine doing that... If this ET2 stuff goes beyond general rumour I'm going to be shocked...

MATT

I'm a spielberg junkie, but even I would consider making a sequel a terrible idea....hey, how about MAC AND ME 2?

Considering E.T. was one of Spielberg's worst movies I say go ahead it can't get any worse.

The even worse thing is that on the ET ride in Orlando they replaced the guns with walkie-talkies as well using...wait for it...duct tape. Very noticable, too.

Hopefully they can come up with another idea for Drew and Stevie and leave ET alone.

Unless they can get creative...
E.T. Strikes Back...
E.T. Reloaded...
Return of the Walkie Talkie...
or perhaps...
B.E.T. - He's alien and he's bling bling.

Or better yet, leave it alone.
