Scenes where record abruptly stops

What movie scenes can you remember where there is a sound effect of a record abpruptly stopping?

Hiro11 07-10-05 03:00 PM

Austin Powers when he's dancing for the fembots.

Back the The Future when Biff confronts George for going back into the cafe to call Lorraine his "density"

matome 07-10-05 03:04 PM

Pulp Fiction, when Mia & Vincent leave for Jack Rabbit Slims.

jaeufraser 07-10-05 03:08 PM

Or Kill Bill, when Uma first climbs into the ***** Wagon.

I'm not sure I understand exactly what you mean, but what about in The Royal Tennenbaums right after Luke Wilson slits his wrists and is found by Bill Murray's sidekick kid. Elliott Smith's "Needle in the Hay" ends abruptly to add to the shock of the suicide attempt.

Also high school high had one with a record in the scene when they're at the dance and Jon Lovitz puts on the cowboy music.

Michael Ballack 07-10-05 04:03 PM

In Howard Stern's Private Parts, Howard Drops some records on the player and the record abruptly stops. Pretty funny scene.

Wasn't the part in 8mm with Aphex Twin on the record player? I seem to remember that abruptly stopping, but I think it was actually stopped, not bumped.

Saving Private Ryan.Right before the big battle at the end, there sitting around listening to a record. When they hear the Germans coming they turn it off quickly, and it makes that rrrrrt noise.

The Virgin Suicides, where Kirsten Dunst and Josh Hartnett are going at it in the car to to Heart's "Crazy on You" and then it abruptly cuts to James Woods in the classroom staring into space.

There is one in St. Elmos Fire, when Jude Law and Andrew McCarthy fight on the floor at the party at Emilio Estevez's boss' house.

Not exactly a "needle yanked off the record" moment, but what about the abrupt stop to Jackson Browne's "Somebody's Baby" after Damone's quick finish with Jennifer Jason-Leigh in Fast Times at Ridgemont High?

Gremlins, when the mother is going through the house with a knife, she pulls the needle off a playing record.

Are we looking for movies where the scene actually involves a record being stopped, or where the soundtrack exhibits this behavior? Or both?

duff beer 07-11-05 03:14 PM

Soundtrack, mine just had the record in the scene but was the same thing.

conscience 07-11-05 03:28 PM

I got one. Was watching Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind today and while the seaside house is being "torn apart", the score suddenly stops for a few seconds and then starts up again.

SFranke 07-11-05 03:41 PM

I'm surprised no one mentioned the opening seconds of Fight Club.
