July 8-10 Box Office - Fantastic Four: $56 Million opening weekend!

Holy schnizzit! Www.showbizdata.com is reporting estimates FF got $20 million on Friday. That pretty much ensures around a $60 million weekend -- blowing all the predictions out of the water! Who would have thought FF would beat Batman's opening weekend?!

I haven't seen it yet, going this afternoon, but obviously the critics' low ratings didn't matter one whit on this one. Interesting to see what the final #s are.

Wow. Haven't seen it yet. Heard mostly bad things about it. Will still see it tomorrow and support comic book movies.

It was probably the huge marketing blitz plus the kid-friendly lure of the movie.

Me, because I never had knee-pads on for the new Batman movie.

Actually, I didn't think the FF would do very well because it doesn't look all that good. The FF isn't the kind of super hero story that translate well into a cookie cutter action movie that this film looks like.

No kidding. I'll assume it was because of the marketing push. From NBA to basic home highspeed internet access. I mean, do you know how many product placements it had. It was inbedded into your head.

Batman Begins opened on a Wednesday, so its not quite a direct comparison. Also let's see what word-of-mouth will do.

I'm thinking the wknd for FF will be closer to $50mill, but that's still much more than I was expecting. (35-40)

Yeah, word of mouth will be key. 26% on rotten tomatoes at the moment with 112 reviews in.

Glad to see Fantastic Four with a good opening

It wasn't a great movie, but it was a solid movie. I'd love to see sequels.

word of mouth is different then critic's views, most people seemed to really enjoy the movie, i seen it yesterday and people were laughing and when i walked out i didnt hear one person say one bad thing about it, so i think it will do good in the long run, look at another summer movie, the longest yard, got horrible reviews and its past the 100 million dollar mark. I dont think really Critics views change anything, some film snobs but thats about it

Wow. Box Office Mojo predicted a $40 million weekend take, which makes more sense. However, I wouldn't be shocked to see a drop from Friday to Saturday and then a huge snowball effect the rest of the way.

Marketing has been crazy on this movie. You can't turn your head without seeing something that says Fantastic Four on it. Not a shock it will open big this weekend.

20 mil on opening day is pretty impressive, I love superhero movies but this movie just does not look good at all. I might have to check it out...

The point is that not many people give a damn about Fantastic Four except for comic book fans. Another problem is giving a hack director with little experience a huge budget. It just doesn't make sense.

I'm glad the big crappy action movies are mostly over and now we'll get some decent comedies, dramas etc for the rest of the summer.
