To me, this is like complaining that there should have been fewer lightsabre fights and use of the force in Star Wars Ep 3 because you don't generally like sci-fantasy and prefer harder sci-fi.

In other words, perhaps if you don't like superhero movies and prefer psychological thrillers, Batman isn't the movie for you. I happen to like superhero movies and would be disappointed that I got something that was a psychological thriller.

As it is, though, I didn't think Batman was a psychological thriller so much as it was simply a bad superhero movie (for the reasons I laid out in my firts post, and I won't bore everyone with the details again).

Batman Begins is holding up very well at $172,000,000 after 4 weeks. It was #3 this past weekend with a more than $10,000,000 take. It's poised to break $200 million, I think. Warner Bros. cannot be unhappy with these numbers. Though if that marketing budget estimate is true . . .

I hope it makes the 200 million mark. I just LOVED this movie. Saw it again on monday - it was better than the first viewing. I've already spent 30$ on 2 IMAX viewings, thinking of going again. There were also a reasonable number of people on monday afternoon 340 show.

Nowadays, that is more important along with the eventual DVD sales.

World of the worlds is beating batman, I'm pissed.

It should squeak by the $200m domestic mark, if it doesn't shed too many theaters. Hopefully it's above average legs will keep that from happening. It's gonna be close. It just opened in most of the larger worlwide venues (UK, France, Australia, etc.) last week, so hopefully they will be able to lift it over the $400WW mark.

Saw it for the second time last night (takes me 2 times with most movies to have a full opinion on them) and LOVED it. Enjoyed it the first time as well, but the second time (knowing what to expect) I really enjoyed it. Definitely going to pick it up when it is released.

Great directing, acting, story. Katie Holmes didn't even piss me off as much the 2nd time

I'm one of the few who just saw this yesterday for a matinee show. I expected a great movie from all the glowing reviews. Bad sadly, quite disappointed. Too dramatic. Took itself too seriously. BB wasn't a horrible movie by any stretch. I prefer the Marvel films I guess minus The Hulk. I preferred Tim Burton's version of Batman.

That's fine. Just remember that the very thing you didn't like is the very thing that blew the rest of away.

Before anyone starts joking around, how much lighter would you have preffered it? I see you say that you preffer the Burton films but, although somewhat offbeat, those films had less a sense of fun than this film had. Not saying anything bad about Burton's films (I still enjoy them despite the fact that I've never really considered them Batman films but rather what Burton would have done had he created Batman instead of Bob Kane) but they were rather morbid compared to Batman Begins.

So, what to you is too serious and too dramatic regarding this film?

This didn't bother me. But what did bother me was that it felt like I was watching a 2 and-a-half hour movie that was taken from a 5-hour miniseries. Hence, MORE SCARECROW!

Yeah, as much as I love Ra's Al Ghul, Scarecrow was the best part. Even though the sequels villains will be the Joker and Tw-Face, I hope we see a Scarecrow cameo in each sequel and perhaps Scarecrow as the main villain in a fourth film.

Finally got around to seeing it today, and it blew me away. I was avoiding it for months because I am not a big fan of Bale, but it was a great movie. The best comic book movie ever.

The whole tone of the movie is much more serious and dramatic. Sure, many people like the movie for this reason. I was expecting a little light-heartedness at times such as in movies like Spiderman and Fantastic Four. BB felt like a big downer from beginning to end. Not that I expected it to be in any way like the campy TV show. Thought it would be more 'fun' but I was disappointed. That's just my impression and opinion.

Here's a little something for long time readers of this thread. Batman Begins just crossed Pearl Harbor on the all-time Domestic chart.

Im actually the opposite. When I saw it (especially from the previews), I was expecting a darker movie.
I understand why it was kind of 'light' (since they wanted a PG13 movie for the kiddies), but I really wanted a darker more serious/mean character (I kind of wanted a movie with the atmosphere of The Crow).

BB is at the $200 million domestic gross mark, with more than $355 million worldwide. A decent take, no? That should ensure a sequel. I hope it also shuts up those naysayers who proclaimed BB a flop after it's first week.

Holmes returns for Batman sequel

Seems Katie Holmes hasn't got a pink slip from the "Batman" franchise at all - "Batman Begins" producer Charles Roven tells Sci Fi Wire that Holmes will be back for seconds, reprising her role as love interest Rachel Dawes in the sequel to the Summer hit.

Rumour had it that Holmes had been dropped from the film because the studio were unhappy that her and Tom Cruise were getting more attention than the film she was supposed to be out and about plugging. They were apparently looking to cast a "Stronger" actress in the sequel.

Roven says Holmes is back though, playing the assistant D.A who stole Bruce Wayne's heart by the final credits.

Also back, he confirms, is Michael Caine as the butler Alfred, Gary Oldman as police detective Jim Gordon, and of course, Christian Bale as Batman/Brucie boy.

"We're waiting for Chris Nolan to declare himself. We will do it after he does that", Nolan says.

Good news about a sequel. I'm on the fence about Katie. She was just 'meh' for me. Not so bad to bring the movie down, but not good enough to walk amongst the rest of the cast either.

I still see nothing about Morgan Freeman returning.

That can't be right. I read on this forum that Pearl Harbor would make at least 400 million. I think you need to check your sources.

I just saw the new Batman and i have to say it was not very exciting at all. I was bored and as for the acting.....well lets just say the only person in the movie that was good was Gary Oldman. I could go on about what i didn't like about it but then again it's only my opinion. Some like it and some don't. I'm sorry to say i was bored. Ohh well maybe the next one will be better.
