Watching a movie based on a book one particularly enjoyed is a prescription for disappointment. But sometimes it turns out ok anyway. I was reluctant to watch "The Door in the Floor" because I enjoyed "A Widow for One Year," but I enjoyed the movie even though it was essentially just a few chapters.

http://www.nostatusquo.com/ACLU/Porn/Ellis2.html should win an award for missing the point of the novel. Descriptions of graphic violence are not glorifications of violence; Ellis isn't John Woo.
FWIW, I enjoyed the movie as a dark satire but hated the book, which was 300 pages of monotony. Tedious style, tedious voice, page upon mind-numbing page of sameness without any real deviation from the theme of empty materialism. It would've made a fine experimental short story, but there wasn't enough to the protagonist to create a worthwhile novel.
