It may not have made a huge difference, but Alien Resurrection was pulled from a summer release and then put out over Thanksgiving to compete with Flubber.

Ghostbusters 2, unfortunatly it was rushed to a summer release and the following week Batman debuted. If they had just waited and released it during the holiday season like originally planned I believe it would have made close to 200 million instead of the 112 mill. It woulda made much more sense considering it was set at that time period and Vigo was gonna take control at the turn of the decade. Umm duh so wtf's it doing in the summer slot?
