good movie, but i didn't understand what was the deal with heath ledger and his goofy accent and the deal with his teeth sticking out all the time with a nasally voice.

i definitely want to check out dogtown and the z boys now.

i didn't buy emile hirsch as a latino gangster, and never really understood given his horrible financial situation why he didn't take advantage of the many opportunities he had. in a way he was said to be the most talented of the bunch. the guy apparently was in jail too for a while.

Dude, I never said shit during last week's huge box office thread where you ripped Hardwick's asshole a new one. However, I do agree she's a shitty director. She's kind of like a low-rate Michael Bay.

"This is our time bros"

If that guy dies violently in the movie, I might see it.

You agree?

Well, where were you when all those forum mouthbreathers descended on me like it was the rape scene in AMERICAN HISTORY X?

Well maybe you should've mentioned your dislike for the film in this week's box office thread due to the film being DOA at the box office.

So would it have made a difference if Fincher had directed instead of just producing?

Depends if Fincher would've had some screenwriters come in and polish up the script. The core problems of the film lie within the film's script. Everybody is one-dimensional and there's no true substance. Characters and plots come and go. It's a fun little flick to watch, but if one saw Dogtown and Z-Boys, the question becomes why isn't the film great?

Hirsh played Jay Adams. I think it's pretty sad that Adams was such an innovator, yet he basically made no money as a skateboarder. I read an interview with him a few years ago in the L.A. Weekly, and he said he was just thankful that he never had to pay for boards or clothing. I'm not sure if it was because of the drugs and partying that prevented him from making it big or just his disregard for the corporate influence on skateboarding. Peralta implied that it was both.

If you watch the doc you'll see/hear why Ledger talks like that. He does a damn near perfect Skip Engblom.

I think Emile gave a very impressive performance. It's the second I've seen this kid and the second time I've been impressed with him.

Again, watch the doc and Jay himself talks about some of the decisions he made.

I thought the movie was really good. And think it's great that the people that don't watch docs will a get a chance to see how it all happened.

Grew up a skater, loved the doc, didn't initially have a lot of interest in seeing this, but sounds like it will be entertaining at least. Much respect for Stacy Peralta. It will always be weird seeing a big studio movie about skating though.

What next, Michael Bay directing The Search for Animal Chin?

It opened up in 7th place.

I liked it though.

Dogtown and Z Boys didn't really focus on how Jay's life started to stray to the wrong side, but it did make mention about the "diverse" culture in Dogtown and Latino gangsters were part of the mix.

Here's what he said in an interview with LA Weekly:

I was 19 years old. Punk was new, fun and exciting. What kids don't look for excuses to rebel against what their parents thought was cool? Punk just happened to be about violence and acting crazy. Before I got into punk rock, I used to hang around the cholo guys in Venice. So that's how the whole Suicidal [Tendencies], Venice-style look developed (cholo-style punk rock).

I really enjoyed Heath Ledgers role in this film.

I saw this a few years ago, didn't realize that Heath Ledger was in it. It was a pretty good flick though, if you like this type of thing check out Stoked: The Rise and Fall of Gator.
