Anakin gets a British accent???

Another nitpick:

So, who can explain how Anakin somehow acquires a British accent going from Hayden Christensen to Sebastian Shaw?

Must be from hanging around all those English Imperial dudes.

Same with Leia in A New Hope. She gets a Madonna-esque fake English brogue when conversing with Tarkin:

"The moh stah systems will slip through your fing-ahs....."

I guess you hang with English dudes, it kinda rubs off on you, eh?

It's fantasy. If you can't suspend disbelief long enough to get past the fact that DIFFERENT ACTORS with DIFFERENT VOICES have played the same character, you need to find a different genre.

It's a fictional fantasy movie, not a documentary. WTF is wrong with people? Is adding just a grain of imagination to the viewing experience just so impossible to do?

How come James Earl Jones didn't try a British accent while voicing Darth Vader?

Well this bugged me in a different way. I was surprised that Anakin never spoke with a British accent and I was afraid that once the helmet came on he'd instantly become a Brit. Thankfully, that didn't happen. As for me, I simply assume that after his whole "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" hissy fit, he decided to reinvent himself and adopting the British accent was just one more change from the man he once was. Then again, in ROTJ, did Sebastian Shaw speak with a British accent as Anakin or did he change his accent to sound more American? It's been a while so I don't remember.

What is the point of every other new thread nitpicking the hell out of this movie?

Is there anything at all people actually like about Star Wars?

Well it's got a great sense of adventure and I like the 50's sci-fi feel. Alec Guiness is still the man and Han Solo is a hoot.

Happy?

Duh dude all it takes is the slightest, tiniest bit of imagination and suspension of disbelief to realize that the Death Star was full of only people with British accents by people who in later years would go on to inhabit London and subsequently lose people who fled to America and since there were no women on the Death Star at all they had nothing to do besides practice their accents until they became perfected arts, and also because Anakin's space suit had a special button that hid his true British accent whilst in the suit.

Duh - just use your imagination because every question posed re: inconsistencies must, by definition, lack any imagination whatsoever...or so they like to say (over and over and over and over again.)

The people bitching constantly over "nit picky" threads are more annoying than the threads themselves.

Damn, am I the only guy who's seen this movie a thousand times and hears no trace of a British accent from old Anakin? He sounds old, but not British, to my ears at least...

Hey, just be happy you're not hearing David Prowse´s high nasaly voice from behind Darth Vader´s mask to go along with the cockney stormtroopers. We watched a workprint sans foley-adr in sound class and it was like a ¨Who´s Line Is It Anyway?" skit.

You don't hear is when he says, "Now... go, my son."?

I honestly don't...he sounds old, and admittedly cultured, but not British, IMO...now I've researched it, and Sebastian Shaw is British, so I grant there is solid justification for those who hear a British accent, but I still don't really hear it and, conceding it's probably evident, it certainly is not prevalent enough to have ever taken me out of the film...

I just watched it again, and you are right. It is rather subtle.
I always thought that even James Earl Jones as Darth Vader, while not speaking with a British Accent, spoke with a non-rhotic accent, that is, the "R"-less pronunciation of North-East/Southern United States. "You weren't on any MUH-cy mission this time." "You are Paht of the rebel alliance and a traitor."
