Ships of ROTS

I liked the new jedi star fighter, although I still think them needing that extra add-on module for hyperspace is a bad design
the ARC170s reminded me of P61 Black Widows
I also liked Padme's ship with the underslung engines

For some reason the Tantive IV looked too short and squished though

What I wanna know is why do the ships have S-foils? I know the Xwing and Bwings have them cause they have lasers on each wing and thus giving them a possible better shooting range. But why do Jedi Starfighters and Arc 170's have S-foils? Just to look cool?

From the cut out book. The S-foil on ARC-170 and the new Jedi Starfighter are heatsink. I think they put them on the Jedi fighter so that it looks like a proto TIE fighter, which is pretty cool.

The S-foil could also serve to act as a balancing device on the ship so that it becomes more manueverable at high speeds. Even though there's no air resistence in space, there's still plenty of intertia and mass.

A little off topic here, but anyone has any idea on the purpose of the buzz-droid? I assume theyare for disabling the enemy ship, but the little bots just chewed away at obi-wan's interceptor, and the shi[ would have disintegrated if not for Anakin's rescue. Wouldn't a proton torpedo serve a better purpose?

My guess would be that on larger ships (and smaller ships to some degree), the buzz droids could keep going inside and continue to do damage, where as a weapon is a single effect.

It might make more sense for the droids to be mines. I mean if you can't avoid them it would be better if they blew up in your face.

I just want to know why. The jedi ships look more like the ones the empire uses but the ones the Clone Troopers use look more like the rebellion. Well maybe just the Arc 170 and the jedi intercepter.

It would be kind of stupid if they were mines and they blew up Anikin and Obi-wan's starfighters. ROTS would be 10 min long.
