I've been looking forward to this for soooo long! I just hope that it doesn't go the way of Kill Bill, splitting into two seperate films. The idea of two short features seperated only by fake movie trailers was awesome, I hope Tarantino's ego can be subdued enough...

That's the plan, and I think if they were going to split it up, they would have already. It also looks like the short features have turned out longer than expected.

Can't wait!

Nah, that would defeat the whole purpose of the concept. The project was always meant to replicate a grindhouse double feature complete with trailers. I'm hoping that "Planet Terror" and "Death Proof" are good enough films to stand as separate releases if they had to, but really, everything should be seen together for the concept to work as intended.

But early word is that the movie will be split up overseas.

I think the original intent was to create 2 shorter films (about 60-70 mins each) with about 10 minutes of fake trailers inbetween, but each director's stories have since blown out to become full feature length, 120+ min films.

Probably right around 3 hours. About 80 minutes for each feature, and 15-20 minutes of trailers. A few before the first movie, and the rest at intermission.

Honestly, I'm not trying to threadcrap here.

But I just watched the trailer, and this looks incredibly stupid.

Neither movie even looks very good...though the Tarantino movie is probably watchable. But that first film looks just awful. A woman with a gun for a leg? Are you serious?

Why are people so excited about this? Can someone explain this to me?

These films are being done in the style of the 70s exploitation films. These are going to be fun movies - nothing more, nothing less. Turn brain off and have a good time!

Because its from Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez, last time they collaborated on a film they gave us the brilliant action/horror flick From dusk til dawn. I will be there opening day for this one.

I guess this just isn't my type of movie, then...I thought From Dusk til Dawn was one of the worst movies I'd ever seen.

I just don't get how, if these are going to be "fun movies - nothing more nothing less" how people can honestly say they look forward to them more than any other movie of 2007.

Oh well.

actually, the Last Time they collaborated was on Sin City where Tarantino directed a scene...before that Kill Bill Vol. 2 where Rodriguez did the score...

Neither one of these guys has dissapointed me yet.

I thought the same thing about Sin City, but I'm really looking forward to this.

As for the "fun" thing, it's a dirty, sleazy fun, and this movie wallows in it.

But if it's not your thing, it's not your thing. No big deal. Noone's going to take away your cool-movie fan-club card or anything.

The "bad print" style of the trailer was cool at first, but got annoying very very fast. I hope the whole film isn't like that.

I have to admit it would really be a dumb idea if they did that. The films should have a real 70's look to them, cinematography wise, but trying to emulate the look of a ragged, worn film print would not work at all. It would just call attention to itself, in an "aren't we clever" kind of way, and not help the films at all. I really can't see them doing that.

I really think that with these films, you are either going to "get it" and love the concept, or are going to think they are really stupid. I fall into the former catagory (love 70's exploitation films) and cannot wait for these. I'll be there the day the film opens.

They are doing that. I read somewhere that one reel, for example, may be tinted a different color just for effect.

I read this awesome thing today:

Spoiler:
Apparently, at the suggestion of Rick Linklater, Rodriguez's half (Planet Terror) will pay homage to the really shoddy nature of grindhouse films by abruptly stopping partway through, jerkily showing a frame that says "REEL MISSING" and then returning to the action about 20 minutes later when it's all started to get really violent! How awesome is that?

Honestly, the more I hear about this film, the more it sounds like one of the most entertaining, inventive, knowingly silly and gruesome, just plain FUN films ever made! I can't wait..
