Star Wars star wants to try another career
May 24, 2005

Hayden Christensen is set to quit acting to become an architect. The Star Wars actor says he plans to swap the big screen for building design - because the movie industry doesn't excite him anymore.

He told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "Maybe the new Star Wars will be my last movie. "I don't find Hollywood interesting, so I'm thinking about studying architecture instead."

The heartthrob actor, who plays Anakin Skywalker in the hit movie series, claims that he's had enough of making movies because the industry demands too much from its stars.

The 24-year-old actor, who has been romantically linked with his Star Wars co-star Natalie Portman, also slammed other young actors who are prepared to sell themselves to Hollywood in order to make their career successful.

He added: "A film is a product and as an actor you can only sell it if you sell yourself. "You don't get to sit at the table before you're ready to give away your integrity. Maybe it works for Orlando Bloom. It doesn't for me."

Earlier this month the Canadian-born star revealed how he had to bulk up for his role as Darth Vader in third Star Wars instalment, Revenge of the Sith.

The handsome actor has played the young villain in the past two films - but admitted he wasn't big enough to fill the famous black suit after he transforms into the adult character for the final film.

He said: "Yeah, I'm a bit shorter but they were nice enough to put lifts in the shoes and make a big muscle suit so I could fill it out." - Bang
My question... I thought you had to know how to do something before you stopped doing it?

Guess he doesn't want to end up playing the son of Cock-knocker in Revenge of Jay and Silent Bob.

"I don't find Hollywood interesting,"
Coming from him, that's a pretty nasty indictment.

He did it quite well in Episode III and Shattered Glass, as far as I'm concerned. Not that it matters, he can do what he wants.

Ouch on that reference to Orlando Bloom.

According to IMDB, this movie is filming and is due out next year:

The Decameron

Maybe after that movie he's gonna quit... until he's offered a role in Spider-Man 4

Take away the Padme scenes, and I thought he did pretty good in ROTS. Whatever.

He was so-so in the SW movies, but I thought he was pretty decent in his other films. Either way, he should do what makes him happy. But he better realize, he won't be banging chicks like Natalie Portman by being an architect.

I largely attribute the performances of all the actors to the direction and writing of George Lucas. There were occasionally glimpses of great acting in the prequel films, but in other films they have done quite well. For example, I thought Christensen was fantastic in Shattered Glass.

I think the blue screen and having to act with 75% of the set and fellow actors left to his imagination is what killed Christensen, though I just got back from seeing Sith and I thought he was quite decent in it. I think the shift from whiny kid to

megalomaniacal serial killer
helped him a lot too.

Amen to that. As has been said by plenty of others, many who actually know, Lucas is not a very actor-friendly director. Not only does his direction of the actors obviously suck many times, but it's well known that he isn't the best writer out there. Heck, I'm sure plenty of people on this very message board could technically put together a better sounding screenplay.

I've always believed, and always will believe, that Lucas is more of an idea man, a storyteller if you will. I wish that he would just come up with more ideas, then hand that over to better directors and writers. Along the way, it would be fine for him to oversee it. Using his mind for coming up with a story, and his technical knowhow, and put that with a truly fantasic writer and a great director, there is no telling what could really be done at this point. We need more of that.

Why did it matter if he was the one in the suit? They could've gotten anyone to play Darth Vader in garb.

He's a very talented actor and shows his chops well in Shattered Glass, Life as A House and to a lesser degree in Revenge of The Sith. Hate to see him go cause I think he's got a lot to offer.

You know who really sucks as an actor? Robert DeNiro! Granted the only movie I've seen of his is Rocky & Bullwinkle, but he's terrible!
